I just can't even imagine this. The story itself sounds a bit strange...mother milking cows in the middle of the night, father asleep in a truck...but whatever the case, whether poor judgment was involved, I can't imagine losing 7 children and knowing you weren't there to prevent it...it's just heartbreaking all around.

This is so sad, it is horrible to think about how the parents could not get those kids out :( Just a few days ago, there was an Amish buggy swept off a bridge due to flooding, they last almost their entire family as well. Just so scary.

Read that neighbors are helping out and a fund was set up for the family. Someone pulled a trailer onto their property to give them a place to live. 2|1|i cant imagine what they are going thru.......the way i read the story.......|couponsnsamples|cpsnsamples@aol.com|19:58:46|03/09/2011|

This is maddening beyond words to me... that the parents have to deal with the insensitivity of these people. I completely understand that they have the LEGAL RIGHT to do so, but that doesn't make it MORALLY RIGHT.

Whether they have the right or not is beside the point. It's a very crude & pathetic thing for them to do to this family. :(

Too many people are doing things like this anymore, taking things too far, & it makes a mockery of what the Amendments were originally meant to establish.

9|1|I don't know about milk hauling at that time of night but.....|maraj|maraj64@hotmail.com|16:59:51|03/11/2011|

I know farmers around here milk their cows about every 12 hrs. & altho usually 5-7 a.m. & then again around 5-7 p.m., some farmers are known to do their milking a little later - 9-11 a.m. & again around 9-11 p.m. I guess it depends on their shedule preference, & I suppose if most of the farmers in that area milk their cows on a later schedule, it would make sense for the milk haulers there to also do their pick-up & hauling on a later schedule.
I did think it a little odd tho that he chose to park & doze only a mile from home..... Kind of wondering why he didn't just go that last mile to get home to sleep....

Never heard of cows being milked at night and why would the father be dozing less than a mile away down the road. If he had nothing to do he should have been helping the wife. Why would the 2 and 3 year old be still watching TV at 10 At night and the 11 year old not watching them. I saw where the grandmother said the little ones were playing in the smoke from the propane heater. Saw the fathers interview and did not appear the least bit broken up to me. Lost a 7 month old, and is already 6 months pregnant with another one.

We live in an area where there are a lot of dairy farmers. They all said they do runs in the middle of the night because the milk has to be at the processing plant by early morning. I'm assuming that they are deeply religious & I know that there are Amish roots involved in this, so guessing they are traditional Amish religion that believes there is a reason for each & every death & you do not question why but accept that it is God's will. All Amish that live in this area, say you do not grieve in public, you grieve in private with your God. You accept & go on. As for her being pregnant again when they have a 7 mo. old, I know many in this area that are like this. They believe that they are to populate the earth by having children to celebrate God. Most here have at least 12 to 15 kids, some are only 11 mo. apart. I don't think it's fishy as much as I think they are hard working people who worked from dawn to dusk & a tragic thing happened. As they would say, it's God's will. We have 1 family here who just lost a baby & I was talking to her the other day, she lives just down the road from my daughter, she told me that she knew it was God's will & she accepted this & goes on. By the way this is one who just lost her 5 mo. old & she is 6 wk. pregnant, she also has a 13 mo old. The reason I do know some of this is because one of the families that live in this area are related. They just hired a friend of ours to drive them to the funeral. I spoke with Mary a few days ago & she was talking about this. They are such a strong people & their faith is just unshakeable, they just believe that God has a reason for everything & it is not your place to question it, you are to just accept & go on, as God knows best.

I have been wondering that for 2 days! Why run a mile to get the father and NOT go in after your children! Also, doesn't it seem "funny" that the father fell asleep a mile away from the house AND the parents knowingly left the children in the house ALONE at 10pm while the 2 youngest children were still awake? So many things about this story really perturb me. RIP Little Ones.

twice the rest of the time. They produce less milk in winter months, so that is why they do milking 3 times a day in winter.

The milk pick up depends on how many gallons the herd produces within 24 hours and how much bulk storage they have , here
the milk pick up is once a day. Some places it may be as much as twice or three times a day. So they do have pick up after
dark. No way can they do all the pick ups in daylight hours. Is impossible. Hope this info helps?
