One of my mom's elderly lady friends said yesterday that her Soc. Security check got reduced. :( There hasn't been any SS COLA the last 2 yrs. but she got a letter saying she was getting too much so her monthly SS amount is being cut. She lives in her own home. For now.
I don't think this is a good omen.....

and lets not forget.......all the people who PRETEND to be disabled...to get the disability checks..when in reality they are
more abled bodied to be working than alot of our husbands,dads,moms,brothers..sisters..ect
instead of cutting school funding.SS and other stuff ......they should be providing a dr...that has to show proof these people are disabled ...and not take the word of their family doctors...ect..........maybe they should investagate some of the so called disabled.....would be much cheaper to hire investagators for each county than to provide checks to people who dont need them.....
id be willing to bet......that we all know people......that gets disability payments...that truely there is nothing wrong with ......
they take over $200 per wk....out of my husbands check for taxes..ect......which really makes me mad when i look around...see people drawing checks,foodstamps..ect......living better than we are......when he works his butt off and they drive up and down the road all day long..........

My daughter gets SSI,if you looked at her you would think nothing is wrong.
She is mentally retarded,deaf/blind R side, has lupus,and is a high functioning autistic.
and suffers from depression.
Some days she can fool people. So you can't always judge a book from it's cover.

I know of a couple people on disability who have side businesses on ebay and make more than me a month. How hard is it to be a walmart greeter? I just had this talk with someone from rs recently. The abuse of the system on the whole not just ssi is huge and the system needs a better way of monitoring. I know of a guy who has been getting food stamps for his two daughters he hasn't had in six months.

I am personally on disability--in 1997 I was beaten to an inch of my life with a steel baseball bat by an angry 12 year old. I had a long road back to recovery. 2 years and counting.
I have 75% use of my left side on good days. To look at me you would not think there is anything wrong. As a result of this incident, I take medication for anxiety attacks, I have pain that you cannot view with the naked eyes that I live with everyday and beleive me it is not an easy thing to live with.
SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO0-you cannot judge a book by its cover. Granted there are peopple who are taking advantage of the "system", but there are equally deserving people who receive these benefits and they cannot work!!!!!!

Obviously, there are millions of people who need it. But, there are probably also millions who are defrauding the system. THOSE are the ones who should be re-evaluated. I don't think anyone here would begrudge someone who truly needs it from having it. We never know what the future holds for any of us. and in 10 years when our children cannot pass simple math and english test tests they will stand there are scream how could this happen and what can we do about it. by then it is too little too late. when they kids get in trouble because there is no place to go after school ,teen preganancy goes up for the same reason and little kids get left home alone because there is no licensed day care then we will see who cries for help.

Who are we to judge whether or not someone is "disabled."
IF you know of someone who truly is abusing the system...turn them in. There are ways to do it anonymously.

I have seen both sides of the coin 1st hand so I try very hard not to judge cuz most times, I truly do not know who is/isn't disabled. Just knowing that someone is receiving a disability check, welfare check &/or foodstamps is NOT a good indication of what's going on in that person's life.
Year's ago, a former friend (key word there is *former) & her dh were receiving foodstamps & a welfare check every month. At the time, they had 2 small kids. Every month, the mom would cash the check & give her dh an "allowance" of $50 out of it so he could buy his bag of dope & booze. This isn't my imagination or a possible wrong assumption on my part cuz the mom TOLD me this herself. I was furious to say the least & I severed our friendship then & there. It wouldn't have mattered if I even knew then who/where to report that type of abuse since I had only the info the mom told me, & NO proof.
Just a few yrs. ago, a young couple around my age moved in next door to me. They both appeared (key word here is *appeared*) to be able-bodied & in good health. They'd occasionally go fishing, boating, etc. Their son was a year younger than my son at the time so we all became acquainted but I wondered why neither parent worked. Come to find out they were both receiving disability because they were both suffering from Parkinson's Disease. I quickly learned that for them to merely go shopping could be a pleasurable yet dreaded excursion cuz altho they might be fine when they walked in to the store, by the time they were ready to pay for their purchases, they couldn't walk out & needed a wheelchair just to get back to their vehicle. Parkinson's works that way - one minute you might be feeling fine & the next, you can barely move.
To this day I am still so greatful I didn't judge them because of what *I* or others might initially perceive to be a full-functional couple too lazy to work & abusing the system.
What I'm trying to say is that there is likely going to be some who always abuse the "system", whatever "system" there is. Just as there are some who cheat on their taxes, cheat at gambling, cheat the law, etc. But I think those numbers really aren't as large as we might perceive them to be, & there are many more who do NOT.
In all honesty & fairness, it is difficult to prove who's cheating what/whom in most cases.
But, when it comes to budget cuts, I think the cuts should rightfully begin in Washington & follow the path on down w/all the political officiondos. Don't take away from us "little" people when so many of us are already struggling, some moreso than others. Don't try to take away from those who don't even have anything left to take!
Many of the bigwigs in office have more than 1 home while so many in this country don't even have a dang shingle over their head & are trying to survive on the streets, under subway stations, under highway overpasses or in parks.
The bigwigs eat at fancy restaurants, throw & attend lavish parties where food is always plentiful while so many in this country go hungry or dig for any food they hope to find salvagable from rats & maggots out of dumpsters.
The bigwigs get the best of medical care w/no expense spared while so many in this country go w/out vaccinations, dental & medical exams & much needed medication, or they have to try & choose each month between food, heat or needed meds.
The bigwigs are set for life financially once they've been in office while so many in this country pray for an early death so they no longer have to fight to survive thru another day, another day w/out a roof over their head, scavenging for food or dealing w/the pain & suffering of an undiagnosed/untreated illness. :(
The budget cuts need to begin w/the bigwigs at the top because they're the biggest & worst abusers of the "system"!

that use government benefits fraudulently......and it's THOSE people who will ultimately ruin it for those who really need it.
I feel bad because it's NOT going to get any better....but they do have to do SOMETHING.............as a country we are ALMOST half and half in terms of half collecting some form of government aid and half working and paying into the system....this is completely not sustainable....and really.......the working people of america are getting to a point where they can barely afford to support themselves and the family they brought into the world because they are having to pay so much more for everything to cover what the government has to pay out in benefits........
There are some people who legitimately NEED assistance and those are the people I feel for........the ones abusing the system, I could care less about.....

Medicaid and Medicare at the same time also no one in the govt
just 'gives' anyone ss or ssi. You have to go to multiple doctors to
get proof of a diagnosis they will support. Also even then some people
have to get lawyers. We had to contact our Federal senator's office
in frustration. They do no 'give' anything. It amazes me people can
get money by lying. They must know how to convincingly fake
symptoms at will or have stupid or crooked doctors.
22|8|In regards to the elderly, that is not necessary true for healthcare....they can be on medicaid for their primary payor source...but if they were to have a surgery, hospitalization, short or long term facility stay (nursing home), they would indeed be able to utilize their Med A benefits. Med B can also be used for home therapy or outpatient therapy for specific treatments/modalities. Those would be billed to the Medicare part appropriate to the services received rather than to Medicaid.
