Authorities in Kentucky today found the body of the fourth Amish child who was swept away when the horse-drawn Amish buggy in which she was riding overturned in a rain-swollen creek Thursday, drowning three of her siblings in southwestern Kentucky.

The midmorning discovery came shortly after Graves County Sheriff Dewayne Redmon told AOL News that searchers were "still hoping and praying" the child was still alive.

According to Redmon, members of two Amish families -- two adults and seven children -- were traveling near the town of Mayfield, about 25 miles south of Paducah, at about 8:30 p.m. Thursday when the tragedy occurred. Their names were not released.

"They were attempting to cross the creek," Redmon said. "That is the way they normally go to their houses at that particular point in the road."

Torrential rains had drenched the area and caused Roscoe Creek to swell. The floodwaters quickly overwhelmed the buggy, forcing it to overturn and knocking everyone into the water.

Two adults and three children managed to make it to shore, but four other children, three girls and a boy -- all under the age of 12 -- were swept away in the swift-moving current, Redmon said.

Three of the children's bodies were found after midnight Friday. The victims were 6 months, 5 years and 8 years old. The body of the fourth child, an 11-year-old girl, was found at 10:45 a.m. today, not far from where the other children were found.
