20 0|0|I need some prayers for my grandson Cooper|bcmunns|bcmunns@bellsouth.net|20:00:55|02/23/2011|
Posted on Feb-23-11 at 08:00 PM (Eastern) by 98.69.171.170

Shelley took him to the doctor today and he has lost 2 more pounds
and only weighs 47 pounds and will be 9 years old on Saturday.
The doctors have discussed putting a feeding tube in and today they told Shelley
that the time has come for that to be done and they wanted to do it Friday and he would have
a 3 day hospital stay but Shelley just did not have the heart to have it done on his
birthday so probably the following weekend.

With everything he has been thru he just keeps on smiling and telling us everthing is going
to be alright and it has really upset me but I know it has to be done so I will just grin and
bear it the best I can.

With all he has been thru no doctor can come up with why his growth has been stunted except to say
he has severe allergies but to me that is not an answer and I know they have exhausted every test possible
to find an answer but so far they have not come up with anything.

Any prayers and good thoughts will be so apprecaited 1|1|Miss Betty....sending up prayers for Cooper, and the family|BusterBrown|srfreezerqueen@hotmail.com|20:04:22|02/23/2011|

I am thinking they will do this the first weekend in March and he will be
at the Childrens Hospital at Chapel Hill and will go in on Friday and come home Sunday

The time in the hospital is to show David and Shelley how to put the tube in and feed
him and then take it out so he will not have to go to school with it in his nose and they will try
this for 6 months and if there is enough improvement they will put a permanent tube in thru his stomach.

It is a lot of training for David and Shelley and they have to be very careful that the tube goes to
his stomach and does not puncture his lung and a lot of this depends on how Cooper tolerates it and if it
does not work they will just put it in thru his nose and it will stay there for 6 months. 10|1|Oh, Betty, I am so sorry. My prayers for Cooper and all of you. I just know that he will be okay|Mackiesmudder|Mackiesmudder@aol.com|22:34:40|02/23/2011|

I know it seems silly to ask, but The reason I ask is my daughter wasn't growing when she was a baby and a toddler because of the Tonsils and Adenoids. She had a Allergy to Milk at the time that was really really bad. Once the Tonsils and Adenoids came out... she started growing alot. Still short, but really filled out and is pretty normal for a short girl. Also, no Milk Allergy anymore... she would get sick in the middle of the night like she was choking and would throw up all over the house. Dang Tonsils! We also had to switch formulas on her several times as a baby... because she wasn't gaining weight on any of them!

My son who's 8 also has severe allergies -- allergic to 48 different allergens. Turns out his tonsils and adenoids did not look swollen enough to operate but were still swollen... but they were so infected that when the doctor finally touched them in surgery, he said they were full of puss... and probably had been for a long long time. The doctor said he had never seen anything like it. When a doctor who does these surgeries all day long says that, you know it was bad!

Also, my son doesn't like to eat meat. I was reading somewhere that it probably hurt to swallow meat because of the enlarged tonsils and adenoids when he was younger.... that now he's just afraid to eat it for the same reason.... never thought about it that way before. My son also has allergies so bad, that he also couldn't breathe through his nose, it actually blocked his nasal passages almost completely, making it hard to sleep, hard to do just about anything. Since he had a turbinoplasty to open the nose a bit more his behavior has improved, his sleep has improved, he's just healthier.

Just something to think about.... sometimes it turns out to be the littlest thing that someone overlooked.

Also have the tested to see specifically what he's allergic to? I've heard of food allergies causing these issues.

I sure hope he does better soon.

Laurie

for Cooper and he is allergic to milk products and cannot have any food
that has wheat or whey in it and no nuts at all. He takes several allergy meds and
takes a liquid steroid every day.

The doctors are just stumped because he has been tested for everything and all tests
come back negative but they are still looking and working to come up with an answer and it seems
like doctors from all over have looked at his medical chart trying to find an answer

Children do have this problem not because of what they eat. 15|2|Celiac?|Sara_s_Mom|IClipCoupons@gmail.com|15:59:01|02/24/2011|

Just a thought. Have they tried him on a gluten free diet? The problem w/celiac is that you'd need a good diagnosis before switching to a gf diet to see if it works. So he'd have to have the test first.

BTW, I can't eat wheat and I passed the gluten blood test so it came back negative for celiac. However, I can't eat anything w/gluten in it without feeling ill and that includes malt, barley, etc.

Simply put, I have to eat what makes me feel better, regardless of what tests say. Does he have tummy troubles? A friend of my daughter's has unconfirmed celiac. She's doing great on a gf diet. 16|1|Bless his heart....I pray that God will touch his body in a BIG way!|freebiejunkie|joelpoole@msn.com|16:01:50|02/24/2011|

celiac test came back negative and cystic fibrosis came back negative also but
they have him on a diet that you would be on for celiac disease and
he does eat but just has stopped growing in height and weight.

But is is a happy boy and always smiling and he says he does not feel bad
when you ask him and I am sad also because he will not be able to spend
the night with us anymore with the feeding tube because he will be fed at night
before he goes to bed but Shelley says he can stay all day and just bring him home
before bedtime so I guess that will have to do for now and of course my daughter says I have
2 others that can spend the night anytime and they do stay here a lot.

Just hoping that one of the doctors at Chapel Hill will pick up his chart and can figure it out and
they already know he has something very rare and is probably genetic related

18|2|I really hope they can figure out what's going on with Cooper, I can only imagine how hard it is for all of you Betty. I was wondering if they checked his pituitary gland? I've heard that can do with growth problems, I will continue to pray for all of you (((HUGS)))~*~|RebekkaVA|queen_vulture@msn.com|19:58:22|02/24/2011|
