Hi Everyone. Thanks so much for your prayers. Mom spoke with her doctor this morning. It's definately inflammatory breast cancer which is the most aggressive form. They did not mention the bone scan yet, so I'm not sure where we are on that.
But they are going to start Chemo either Monday or Tuesday. They wanted to put a port in my moms chest for it, but apparently there are complications that can arise from that including infection. My Mom doesn't want to chance infection with everything else going on in her chest. So she is opting to get the chemo by IV. I haven't checked into any of this, so I don't know the difference. I just found out.
They also said they would have to remove her breast and lymph nodes under her arm.
I explained to Mom that with breast cancer they almost always remove the affected breast, they want to make sure the cancer is taken out of the body. so that was to be expected. They have reconstructive stuff than can do later and they make things you can wear that make everything look normal when out after it's done. While it sucks... it still could be worse.
I told her that really this was good news... because what she didn't want to hear is that it is inoperable which means they couldn't even operate because it's gone too far and it's hopeless at this point. I told her they are going with the Chemo and the Surgery, which means there is a treatment. I told her this is positive because it really could have been much worse. I also told her that she found it within a few months, not many months, so she's not as far along as she could have been if she had waited. She's also very young and otherwise healthy And that if they are treating her now, maybe it won't spread anymore.
I really feel like this is much more positive than I thought it could be. I know there is still a long road ahead and some really miserable days. But I know she has a chance. That's what she needs is a chance.
I also had a long talk with her fiance yesterday and told him he needs to be there as much as he can. She doesn't know what's going through his head right now and she's sad and insecure right now. She doesn't know if he's going to be gone tomorrow. I didn't say this is what she's thinking right now, but I told him I know how women think and it's different than how a guy thinks! He's thinking he needs to get everything done himself and she's thinking he needs to forget everything else and be supportive at the hospital right now. He assured me he's in this for the long haul and he's not going to leave her. He has a lot going through his head right now. We also discussed my brother living with him, his daughter, his intent with his money, etc. I think he felt better that I understood his feelings as well. He needs to have someone to talk to as well. Being in the finance industry...I'm aware of how these things work and I'm able to keep emotions out of the discussion for the most part. I'm just very happy he's not thinking of leaving, because I don't know what would happen if he broke her heart.
Please keep praying that my Mom gets through this rough time.
I need to start uping my coupon game too.. because financially they are not doing well and this is making it worse. So I'm going to have to provide some kind of support. I don't have extra money... but if I can find them free or really cheap food, laundry detergent etc. every little bit helps. Also, if anyone has any scarves that can be worn on the head that are in excellent condition or if you know of a place I can get them, please let me know. She will need these types of things while going through Chemo. Let me know what you are looking for them.
She will also need Aloe for her skin, apparently your skin feels burnt when going through this. So if anyone has a large stockpile, please let me know what you are looking for in return. I have some stockpiles, some cash here and there.

my husbands aunt has been thru a year of the chemo, radiation, surgery
she had a rare form of breast cancer and she didn't lose weight much
kept up her spirits and didn't lose alot of her hair
but of course all people are different
and of course lots of prayers helps
with lots of support from family and friends she will make it thru
hugs to you and your mom

I've been going through chemotherapy now for 14 months. I did not do a port either, was worried about infections, didn't want something in me all the time, etc. I've been doing them by IV all this time, and my veins are finally starting to act up, but really, it wasn't a problem until just this month, and MOST people will not go through chemo this long.
My aunt is a breast cancer survivor, had the surgery and chemo, only 3 months of chemo and done, and has been fine ever since.
Send me your addy, I have a few extra scarves I can send along, I didn't use those that much, I got some nice wigs and feel more comfortable with them.
Where I get my chemo, they have an information center, they stock hats, scarves, etc. free to patients. They can also tell you of some places where you can get free wigs (American Cancer society has a wig bank, by me a local beauty salon donates one free wig to cancer patients, just have to know to look and they sent me to them).

Aloe works wonders mu husband used that and still does. She had to have the port put in her chest anyway. They said her veins are too thin, so it would cause even greater problems. She's really really worried, because of course they give you a list of things that could go wrong. She will start Chemo as soon as possible too. I'm not sure if they will start it the minute they put that thing in or wait. So I'm waiting to hear from her about what's happening this morning before I drive the hour and 45 minutes to see her.

they are running more tests to figure it out. It appears to be something wrong with the liver! First they say it's the liver, then they say it's not and now they are testing the liver again.
