My Mom MUST use liquid Cascade or liquid dishwasher cleaner since she has a water softner.  <BR>So it might vary from region to region depending on your water.....but I'd avoid the possible problems and use gel packs IF I had something other than my 2 old faithfuls.  :)   HTH<BR>

I bought a TON of the liquid a couple of years ago at Target thank goodness b/c I haven't seen a deal on liquid. It stinks but<BR>I had one dishwasher die b/c of the powder.

I haven't had any trouble with these. I've been using them for years on my old dish washer without it ruining it. But if you have a newer machine, you can always check with the manufacturer.<P>Laurie
