Mom went to the doctor yesterday because of a lump on her breast and some other symptoms. The doctor told her to go to the hospital today because it didn't look good and could be breast cancer. So she is on her way there to have it looked at. Mom is only 58 years old and she's always been like my best friend. I lost my father when I was around 13 and the rest of the family isn't very close. She has no insurance, so she has put off going. I'm hoping for good news... but she has apparently been putting off this visit for some time now. It's hard to be positive when she describes what she is going through with swelling, pain, etc. It's apparently her breast, underarm and now her arm is swelling and retaining water. I know nothing about this stuff.

I called her to check on her and she was very upset. Apparently they believe it has spread to the bones and she will have to see a surgeon early next week and do the full rounds of Chemo, she said they told her she might die from it. It's so not fair! I'm going to call my doctor as well and ask them to send me in for a early mammogram. I'll be 39 this year and I don't think I should wait until I'm 40 to go in. I have gone to the doctor before when I felt a lump and they said it was nothing... I'm going to ask them to make sure since now it runs in my family.
If anyone knows of any resources she can check out. Or have any ideas for her. She's unemployed with no insurance. I'm sure she will lose her hair with the Chemo and go through everything. I want to be able to help her find resources since I don't have much I can do for her. I'm not able to help her financially.
I'm really hoping the fiance sticks around through this and doesn't leave her. He lost his wife, I'm not sure he can handle losing his fiance as well.
Has anyone been through this, what can she expect? What can I do to help her?
Now I have to go straighten myself up... it's my daughters 7th birthday tonight and I can't be crying when she deserves a great time. I have my daughters family and friends birthday party tomorrow too.
What do I tell the kids as they watch their grandma go through this?

I was young..16 yrs old he passed...then lost my mom when I was around 40 or so of age so definately understand how you are feeling. I am praying for your mom and also for God to give you strength to get thru all this. Be strong as your Mom will need your help/support. 7|2|I am so sorry to hear this girlie, I will be praying for you and your mother, I feel even if someone doesn't have insurance, they should help them esp. when they are going through something like cancer, it's horrible. I lost my mom at 19 and my dad at 23. Total surprises. But here's the thing..... Only God can determine if something is going to take someone so don't think bad think she is going to make it. Think it, believe it and hopefully she will too and will do better than if you just thought it was a means with an bad end. You got my prayers. And wishes for your exam.
