Along w/aspartame, it is why I've drank only reg. 7 Up soda pop for several yrs.

3 yrs. ago, an offline friend of mine lost her 14 yr. old son to acute myeloid leukemia. When her son was 1st diagnosed at Mayo, his dr. said right off the bat that the ONLY kind of soda pop he could drink anymore was 7 Up due to the risks associated w/sodium benzoate in EVERY other kind of soda pop. I wasn't surprised about the sodium benzoate as I'd heard about it a long time ago, but I was surprised to find out that someone in the specialist field of oncology had actually known about it as well & was also aware of its risks.
By no means am I any kind of health nut but the oncologist's warning to my friend & her son just confirmed to me what I'd already been aware of.
And from what I understand, the Coca Cola company is planning to remove both sodium benzoate & the forms of aspartame from their products. Don't be surprised if other soda pop companies follow suit cuz I don't understand how in heck the FDA could've deemed this nasty stuff safe enough to be allowed in consumable products to begin with. "New & improved" does NOT necessarily mean "better & safer". :(

Fact of life: After Monday and Tuesday..even the CALENDAR says...

Potassium Bromate

Description & side effects:
Can cause nervous system, kidney disorders, gastrointestinal upset: may be carcinogenic.

Sodium Benzoate (commonly used in soft drinks, meat products, baked goods)
Description & side effects:
It is commonly found in soft drinks, pickles and sauces to prevent mold growing, could
damage DNA. This could cause the same sort of liver damage seen in alcoholics, and is
linked to neurological disorders such as Parkinson`s disease. A review by the World
Health Organisation in 2000 into sodium benzoate reported a vast number of people suffered
from hives, asthma and anaphylactic shock after exposure to this additive. Aggravates asthma
and suspected to be a neurotoxin and carcinogen, and to cause foetal abnormalities. Affects
hyperactive children.

I do not have the info on the potassium benzoate.

~Judy in MI~ I probably have more links, but you could do research all day and night on all the chemical, and
posions in our foods. :(

Did you know that our bodys have a clock that they go by???????

Makes perfect sense, but way to long to post the page. :(

The food clock is based on the fact that stomach acid and enzyme production (pepsin and hydrochloric acid
which is made by the liver) begins in the morning about six clock a.m. and tapers off during the afternoon
hours between 1:00 and 3:00 PM. The diet works by correct principles or natural law and works for everyone.

This is called the Clock Diet. If anyone is interested, just LMK... So much stuff to know these days. 19|2|Holy Moses-more of my health issues! I may have to start cutting back and quit the DP. That's some drastic stuff!|wegogo|mike15461@gmail.com|02:05:10|02/09/2011|

3 years ago, my now 10-year-old begin losing his hair. In a matter of 17 days he was completely bald. He was diagnosed with Alopecia. He has had asthma and eczema for several years. In the last few months he was also diagnosed with psoriasis. Just this summer I(a healthy 36-year-old non-smoker) was diagnosed with severe asthma after a visit to the er because I couldn't breathe. I thought I was going to die. I struggled to breathe for months. Anyway, after taking my son to a dermatologist, allergy doctor, family doctor, pediatric doctor, and a chiropractor here is what I believe:

My son's diet of poptarts, cereal, yogurt with artificial stuff, soda, chips, cookies, & frozen food have made him very sick. We have changed our diets to consist of only fruit, veggies, fish, water, organic milk, (other milk is full of hormones used to make the cows produce more milk), organic chicken (other chicken unless shown on the label is full of hormones used to make the chicken grow faster), organic yogurt. We eat nothing out of a can. That is pretty much it. We do sometimes go out to eat and the rules are off for the night. My son actually is choosing to eat healthier stuff even if he doesn't have to. After two months my son's skin has cleared 100% and neither of us have to use a daily steroid inhaler. There has also been a difference in my youngest son. He is more well behaved and sleeps better. It is still hard to stick to that food list. I still crave a cheeseburger/fries/coke, but I never want my son to be as sick as he was & I never want to end up in the er unable to breathe. Sorry this is so long. Just wanted to give my 2 cents.

If you eat anything with a red color shown as "carmine" on your food label, research it. YUCK!

into all that total healthy stuff to til I started working more from home more on the computer one winter and starting the need for caffiene. Didn't like or want the sugar so went from water only to diet drinks and they have artificial sweeteners. Didn't want to start on sugar in sweet treats so went with more artificial sweetened aiming for quick energy probably caused by the caffeine wearing off. Falling off those two wagons led to falling off the moving, all healthy food and the watching what you eat wagons. Moving has decreased along with energy, hair, health and ability to sleep while weight and exhaustion has increased. I remember eating the way you are with your son and having energy I can't even fathom now and I am only 40. After seeing the rs'r obituary tonight it and it reading it sounds so much like my own would read all the way down to cats but minus daughter. The shock of someone so young dieing from a stroke or similar problem is definitely a wake up call. I have given a huge decrease to the pop intake with the aspartame in the last couple days-from liters a day to 4 cans and one 20 oz in 2 days and am really wanting to go to the ways you are eating now in hopes of getting rid of similar problems and asthma. These have mostly come along since working from home... Though I did move to a town with two power plants in it and a coal furnace which we got rid of! If everyone could read these posts of symptoms and causes you guys have put on I think it would scare some of them healthy. It's working on me! Some how back in the days when things were made from scratch like my mom made or my parents parents and back I don't recall hearing of so many ailments so it has to be coming from our "new and improved/easy" products. We personally make a little ourselves but no where near enough. Maybe its time to start! 24|1|Driller has provided excellent information on Aspartame...|Sharon|corvettelady@lavabit.com|11:34:32|02/09/2011|

I can tell you that when Equal first came out, I was addicted to the stuff, until hubby told me in one of his nutritional health newsletters by Dr. David Williams on the dangers of Aspartame. I then switched to Splenda, which I thought was not as dangerous, not so. I have since switched to natural sweeteners such as Stevia, sometimes Xylitol & Erythritol as well as raw organic honey, organic maple syrup in baking, etc. I also stopped drinking soda for the same reason few years ago, drinking water with fresh squeezed lemon or lime as well as drinking freshly brewed tea daily (white/green/red teas), more healthier for you. More info on the dangers of Aspartame Poisoning from the author of Sweet Poison in link below. Also, I subscribe to Dr. Mercola's email - very informative if you want to live a healthier, chemical-free lifestyle. Sharon:)

I got some of the stevia? today. Can't remember for sure. Read/looked at so many lately. So I wonder if the symptoms/ailments/effects reverse them selves when you quit using the aspartame. I would love to go back to being minorly abnormal if I could undo 37 years minus some in the middle of diet pop. Would like to get close to healthy if possible! Do you know of any harmful effects of the "Natural" non sugar sweeteners or have they not been out long enough......? 29|3|More info on Stevia...|Sharon|corvettelady@lavabit.com|07:06:18|02/11/2011|

Some tips on Stevia sweetener. When I first tried Wisdom Natural Sweetleaf SteviaPlus Powder -- 4 oz from local health food store, I put too much in my tea and it tasted awful & bitter. Hubby told me I only need to use very little, which I did and it was fine after experimenting with it for a few days. I also use Stevita Stevia Surpreme (stevia & xylitol sweetener) both purchased at www.vitacost.com to show you what they look like:

http://www.vitacost.com/Wisdom-Natural-Sweetleaf-SteviaPlus-Powder

http://www.vitacost.com/Stevita-Stevia-Supreme-5-4-oz

I stopped drinking soda few years ago and found Zevia stevia-sweetened diet soda (cola, ginger ale, root beer, orange, etc.) that I drink once in a blue moon, consisting of stevia & erythritol sweetener. However, it is pricey.

Stevia, a natural herb has been used for centuries. It has been used in Japan for over 100 years. More info on stevia:

You questioned "wonder if the symptoms/ailments/effects reverse them selves when you quit using the aspartame". Like I previously stated in my post above, I was using Equal when it first came out mostly used in my coffee along with sugar-free Coffee-mate (another dangerous product-HFCS, aspartame, etc.) which I didn't know at the time, but did notice later on tingling feelings in my feet all the time, gradually getting worst. So, couple years of putting up with this because I loved drinking this stuff & unknowingly addicted to this as well, I finally did some research and was astounded to see the many side effects of aspartame. I actually got scared reading it, so I gradually weaned myself off. I eventually gave up drinking coffee because I only liked it with Coffee-mate sweetener and switched to drinking filtered water with lemon or lime and freshly brewed teas as my main drinks. The tingling gradually went away but it took years. I know, hard to believe, but your body is always repairing itself and you will gradually feel better once you get rid of all the chemicals/processed foods from your body switching to eating healthier foods. This is main reason why we have such high rates of obesity, diabetes, cancer, high blood sugar, etc., as our bodies consuming these chemicals doesn't know what to do with it. Eating these chemically-laden foods, you are actually starving your body of much need nutrients, enzymes, vitamins, minerals - so people continue to feel sick, go to doctors only to get prescribed drugs for their symptoms (just a band-aid, not fixing the underlying problem as they know very little about Nutrition) and your health continues a downward spiral. BUT, you can turn it around, changing your diet, eat a healthier lifestyle, exercise, etc., and you will feel the difference & more energy too. To this day, I'm still reading several books on this subject and I'm still learning something new everyday. Go to your library and pick up some books on health/nutrition/diet, etc., to learn more how to change your life around. You'll be glad you did and good luck! HTH, Sharon:)
