So after talking it over with Dh we decided to have a one day indoor sale the first Saturday in February. I don't have much furniture in the living room and we can just put down some throw rugs to protect the carpet and display boxes of stuff around the room. It's still too chilly to be outdoors all day here and my storage is getting too full so I need to do something! I'm really hoping it will be successful as I am trying to save money to vacation in San Diego in July. So for the next week or so I get to start lugging my storage boxes home and start pricing everything. It is all stockpile/coupon stuff and with the good deals it's been piling up extra fast lately.
Anyone else thinking about doing an early season sale? Normally I wait until April/May, but I have seen a few around town the last couple weeks and they looked real busy so I am thinking it might be worth it. I want to also collect peoples emails and set it up so I can email what I have to interested people and maybe they will come back a few weeks later to buy again.
I figure almost a week in San Diego will run a small fortune and it is all on me to make it happen. :0) My oldest will be 17 in June and I am seeing this as probably my last real chance to take all three girls on a vacation together.

as I was trying really hard to get my "stuff" under control and we also moved. This house is 106 yrs old and has almost no closets, so that's why we have a storage space. It sure keeps the clutter under control for us. I need to find a few more dining room chairs so that is one thing I will be searching for this year. :0)

That was a crazy day! Most of my stockpile was stuff I had collected just in the last month, but I had been working real hard at it. I was set to open at 8, but at 7:15 I had cars pulling up and people were on my porch by 7:30. By 8:30 I had made $100 and I was pretty excited about that. By the end of the sale my total was $450! I have never made so much money in one day in my life. That was exciting!
So, for me at least an early in the season sale was really worth it!

They gave us one weeks notice, but I put garage sale stuff together all year. I take all the kids clothing that is outgrown to a place that buys it outright during the year and then whatever is left goes in a garage sale bin for the next sale. We had mostly clothing today and I sell it all for like .50 each... There were a few other things, but we did pretty well. Not $450 like you... but pretty good for one weeks notice! We were told we had the best sale in the neighborhood by many people stopping by. People were buying clothes by the bagful. Clothing sells so well around here, but then .50 is an awesome price for even the leftover stuff I had.
I have rolling racks that I bought a long time ago when I used to do Ebay, so I put everything on hangers and hang it up. Everything that was left over this time went back into the garage sale bins for next time. I just keep the item on the hanger and put it back in the box, so next time I don't have to re-hang it. The community is going to have another sale in September or October, so by then I should have a bunch more boxes, it's amazing how quickly the kids outgrow stuff.
I didn't have much stock pile stuff, just a few things of make-up to sell. I just haven't been buying much more than I can use these days.
