5|1|I will be 51 on the 9th of Feb. They say that is young for a replacement but I have no choice. They put cortisone in the right knee hope it works. I hear that you have to do the therphy no matter how much you dont want to but I also here they give you some darn good pain meds if needed. With the prayers of my family and refundsweepers friends I know I can get thru this. |nancygal|brennansnanna@hotmail.com|21:18:54|01/19/2011|

I had both knees totally replaced at the same time in 1994 - I was 52. You have to be committed to the exercises. Did your doctor prescribe any exercises to do before surgery? I was in the hospital 6 days and then went to stay at a rehab place for 2 weeks. I'm sure there have been some changes since I had my surgery.
After I came home, the physical therapist came 2 or 3 times a week for about 3 weeks and then she dropped down to twice a week for 4 weeks or so. After I was done with the physical therapist, I went for therapy as an out patient for several weeks and was encouraged to do a lot of walking.
If you follow the exercise program they set up for you, recovery should go pretty well. If you have any questions, feel free to email me.

My mom had her knee replaced 2 yrs ago she was 60, she was sent to a before surgery program which sent her through a water therapy/exercise to prepare her for the surgery. By doing this she built strength in her knee she wasnt having surgery in and in her arms so she could help move herself around. My mom had surgery one day and that same evening they had her sitting on the edge of the bed and the next day we went home with in home therapy for 2 weeks and then i started taking her to therapy at the hospital. Good luck!! My moms biggest challenge was she only has 1 arm so it was hard for her to really do much for herself, and steps into her house was an issue at first and she has a very high bed so it was hard to get her in and out of that.
Good luck and God Bless 11|3|"I Will be praying for you", Water therapy is great for your knees!!!|cashcoll|cashcoll@yahoo.com|04:38:35|01/20/2011|

besides a shot, I just had one in November, they cost $170 counting the office visit and I have no insurance so would love to find something else I could use, I have tried most of the different rub on creams, and been taking Advil's but still very painful, I'll be 65 in 1 year 9 months and will be on medicare if its still around and going in for a complete overhaul lol Linda 18|2|one of the things I have been using at night is the dollar store heat wrap for your back it fits much better on my knee and the heat realy helps I can even stay asleep somenights with that on my knees. Dollar store brand works just as well as the name brand.|nancygal|brennansnanna@hotmail.com|16:34:19|01/20/2011|

the dr wanted my mom to do both knees at once he actually recommends this if they both need to be done but my mom wouldnt go for it, he said alot of his patients do opt for that option to get it over with but with my mom only having the one arm it wouldnt of been to hard for her to try to help herself
i have to say that my mom wouldnt of gotten along as well if she hadnt done the before therapy they had her in and i of course pushed her afterwords because i wanted to come home to my family
good luck 22|1|I had my left knee replaced 5 years ago............|suzhappy|suzhappy@yahoo.com|00:49:17|01/21/2011|
it's definitely not a walk in the park but with a little hard work and alot of physical therapy, you'll be good as new!! I don't think your scar will be as long as mine is. I think they've improved on that point at least!!
Please leave me feedback if we have had a favorable trade and I will do the same for you!

the heat feels good but the cold makes it hurt less, I use a rice bag that I keep in the freezer, I made me a couple out of tube socks and uncooked rice , LInda 28|2|I made some out of the rice and a few with deer corn. I keep the in the frezzer as well but they heat up nice in the microwave also. Good idea to make a few out of the socks. Will have to make one or two before I go in.
