That was when your driver's license could get you across easily. I think you need a passport now and probably the kids' need their birth certificates.

The Canadian side is very nice. I remember being struck by how litter free/gum free and general cleanliness of the Canadian side. They also have a whirlpool a short drive in that was cool to see. I didn't get in the ride over that! They had some kind of ski car thing on a pulley that went over this huge whirl pool and it just scared me, LOL. There's an old fort on the Canadian side too. They also have a very nice botanical garden that we went to.

Just make sure you exchange your money before you come back. We didn't and a toll booth in NY was the last place to do it and they only took X amount of Canadian money back. We gave my dad the rest of what we had because he used to go up there to the casinos.

Did you know that the Falls moves back several feet a year? The edge of the falls is not where it was when we went there on our honey moon! It recedes back into America about 1-1.5 meters a year (3-4 feet) so it's back about 50 feet since we got married.

the canadian side has the best view of the falls but there is the passport issue ( if your state has enhanced drivers license that works the same as a passport and is cheaper)

the canadian side has lots of touristy places and amazing hotels. it is also about a 1hours drive to toronto.

if you gamble there is also lots of that on both sides and a hard rock restaurant on each side. in the summer the canadian side has marine land.

we don't tell any one i can be nice-- ruins the image. 4|1|Yes Lydia, I'm from Buffalo, and only a 10-15 min drive from the Falls.|flapper|joyphalen@yahoo.com|09:12:52|12/22/2010|

I highly recommend seeing the Falls,it is spectacular. I recommend seeing it from both the American side and the Canadian side. The canadian side I think is much better. But you have to see both sides, all it means it just going over the bridge. I'm sure the kids would be in awe as it's one of the 7 great wonders of the world. I can't tell you how many times I've seen it and still love looking at it. I would wait until warm weather as the falls sends quite a spray and if it's chilly out, you'll be cold. You might also want to take the tour of going under the falls and you can reach out and feel it coming down on you hands. It's called the cave of the winds. And also they have the Maid of the Mist, I recommend that too. You put on rain gear and the boat goes very close to the falls. So like I mentioned it's a warm weather thing if you want to do those things. However, if you look at it in the winter, you get to see the ice on it when it's really really cold. No ice yet.
It's a must to see. Hope this helps.

Almost forgot to mention, that in the summertime, they turn on different colored lights on the falls in the evening and when it's dark, they look like the falls coming down in color.
And there's a restaurant right across the street that you can sit and watch the falls and it's very tall and you take an elevator that goes up the side of the building. It's not expensive and not cheap neither. Food was excellent when we were last there.

They will enjoy it with the cannon and everythine else it has. Be sure if you go to canada side to wear waliking shoes. It is very nice to see and several other places of interest most within walking sistance of the falls. The food there is very diffent and not alot of meat. everytime you go throught a place of interest the ecit is always in a gift shop. They do try to get every penny they can. The canada side has alot more then the U.S. side. If you can affoed it I would say take a tour trip so you do not miss things.

The Canadian side is definitely a better view/nicer in general. I also agree with the Maid of the Mist being a neat idea---but a warm weather one. And seeing it also at night as the lights are cool and the kids would like that too.

In the area is also the Butterfly Conservatory....and the whole Clifton Hill area is a big touristy area which includes a Ripley's Museum, the Hard Rock Cafe, various arcade type stuff and, of course casinos for the adults.
