Just got off the phone w/my sister & found out that my brother-in-law's employer called him today & told him they were going to have to let him go cuz he'd been missing too much work!
Well, duh! He's been diagnosed w/cancer & has had to have tests & procedures done (2 hr. surgery to put in the feeding tube thing & the port in prep for the chemo treatments & some other test that gave him bad diarrhea) that have affected him to where he missed 2 lousy days of work in the 2 mos. he's been there, but I'd say it was w/VERY good & verifiable medical reason. But the employer didn't care & didn't make any attempt to accomodate him or even so much as apologize! Grrrrrr!!!
I'm SOOOOO pi$$ed off I could spit daggers cuz talk about kicking someone when they're down! :(
I told my sister to make darn sure & write all this down w/names & dates & tell the attorney about it who'll be handling my bil's disability claim. The name of the atty. I gave my sister just so happens to also handle discrimination suits!

I keep hearing story after story like this and it is horrible! Hope the USA finds a way to stop this for good.

I read over most of it & have saved it.
My sister said my bil's employer was made aware that my bil had recently been diagnosed w/cancer so the termination shows the employer was obviously not about to attempt to make any kind of accomodations for my bil. :(
My bil missed 2 lousy days of work & both of those times were due to a cancer related procedure.
I'm still so boiling mad over this that I was actually surprised to see there's still snow left on my roof this morning!

Do these companies just not have a heart any more?! I know there are employers who go above and beyond in their help for the family but ... HOLY COW ... doesn't seem like his even did the bare minimum!

I was enraged when I found out my bil's employer so coldly fired him. :( I've absorbed it but am still so very, very angry that some people are just so cruel & heartless. The oncologist even told my sister & bil he was very sorry for having to tell them this kind of news right before Christmas. My bil is such a good guy but is on the quiet side, doesn't say much & doesn't complain so he must be feeling like someone's punching bag for bad luck lately. :( He didn't tell my sister for several mos. that food was getting stuck in his esophagus so she thought that he was simply having a hard time adjusting to the false teeth he got late last winter but he lost 25 lbs. in just the past few mos. But he's been trying so hard to keep working as much as he could cuz w/no insurance, he knows they're going to be in financial straights when the med. bills start arriving & they're already talking of the possibility they may have to sell their house lest they can't make the mortgage payments.
We were all so hopeful when we 1st heard the cancer is stage 2 but have since found out that the oncologist told my sister the prognosis for my bil is actually only 1-2 yrs., even w/the chemo treatment. :( This was another blow I wasn't expecting to hear. My bil wasn't in the room when my sister asked the dr. what the prognosis is so my bil does NOT know this yet. Let's hope & pray this is one of those times the prognosis isn't accurate & my bil will have alot more years.
But the oncologist said their immediate goal is to shrink just the largest mass in his esophagus to give him quality of life back so he can eat normally again. As it's been for the last few mos. anyway, my bil cannot eat anything unless it's pureed or thin, smooth &/or soupy because the mass is large enough that anything grainy (like malt-o-meal) or even w/the smallest lumps/chunks won't go down & get stuck in his esophagus. My sister even has to puree small curd cottage cheese & sift thru some of the fruit flavored yogurt that may have small pieces of fruit in it (strawberry, strawberry/banana, apple turnover, etc.).
This is all just so not right to be happening to him. :(

9|3|Oh no, I am so sorry, Tami....I was praying for a good prognosis for him :( Have your sister try making him smoothies/shakes....pack the calories in there for him with ice cream and milk, and try adding some protein powder (the vanilla whey protein powder they sell at WM is pretty good, my boys both like it) and fruit juice to vary the flavors for him.
