most tips really do come from ... been there done that, don't they?!
we don't have pups but we do have 3 messy drinkers. their water bowl is sitting on a hard wood floor and we have one of those ... i don't know what they're called - they look like oversized plastic place mats and they go under doggie water bowls to catch the drips ...
... anyway, we always wiped up around the mat but never thought to lift it FREQUENTLY to wipe little driplets that worked their way under the mat. when i did lift the mat to clean under it ... for heaven's sakes. it looked like a termite oasis under there. luckily we didn't get termites but the water sat under it and turned the wood all kinds of bad colors!

Lola took the rings off and both her and the puppy pick them up all the time and carry them around esp when they want to be fed wet food Their dry food is in a dispencer lol Now thw water dish is just a heavy plastic dish that we have had since our Sam was lil neither he nor Lola ( our Jack) ever picked it up but Lily lol lol She walks to a different drummer lol There is a pick on my fb page of her brother Otis who looks exactly like her so you can see how big she is We think that she has Lab in her take a look and let me know what you think lol 10|5|Hey T...not sure which pic i was too look at|BusterBrown|srfreezerqueen@hotmail.com|23:05:00|12/16/2010|
