11 0|0|Does this sound "scammy" to you?? Craigslist ad respondent...inside...|emerald9|brandaseider@yahoo.com|21:47:57|12/01/2010|
Posted on Dec-01-10 at 09:47 PM (Eastern) by 71.115.123.239

This was her first response to my ad for a desk that I have for sale on Craigslist:

"Hello seller, do you still have the above furniture available? If yes,
please get back to me as I am willing to purchase this asap. Thanks.

Chloe."

I told her through email that I still had it and that I would send her more pictures if she wanted b/c the ones I had posted weren't very good quality pictures...and that she could come look at it if she'd like to...

Then she responded with this email:

"Thanks for the mail.I am okay with the price and am comfortable with
the pics you send to me here.I would have loved to come and see it in
your house but my schedule will not permit me I'm a busy kind of
person. We can proceed with payment arrangements and pick up. I will be
making the payment with cashiers check or certified check, so I will
need your full name that will be on the check and your full address
where you can easily receive the package via courier and I will
arrange for the pickup myself. I will hold till this check finally
clears by your bank before the pickup.

NOTE:The payment I will be sending you will be of an excess. This you
will give to the cargo company when they contact you for the
pickup. All you need to do is to get the payment verified in your bank
and faithfully deduct your own money as soon as you have the cash and
send the remaining to the cargo company for them to come for the
pickup. Please get back to me if you are okay with this and I will
implore you to remove the ads off craigslist because I really want to
purchase this asap."

And it's funny that craigslist sends warning messages with people's email responses not to accept cashier's checks as payment for your items...and that's exactly what she offered to pay with.
I just really think it's one of those "craigslist scams" that people have been pulling - what do you think? 1|1|I would think it's a scam. Sorry. :(|maraj|maraj64@hotmail.com|21:55:03|12/01/2010|

Usually if the amount is in excess of the cost of what you're selling, they'll ask you to wire them back the difference. You wire them the money and then their cashier's check bounces leaving you hanging at the bank for the amount of the check plus what you wired them.

Not sure what the angle is here, but surely a scam. Maybe they're after some personal info like name and address and email address? Or they come get the merchandise before the check clears and then the check ends up bouncing?

This always happens to me when I post on Craigslist. So be very careful. Esp. when they say they don't have time.
seahawk 5|1|Boy, this sure smells like a scam to me, if she wants furniture pay when pick up, but I don't know that I would even want her to know my address now.I'd stay a mile away from this. |flapper|joyphalen@yahoo.com|06:44:41|12/02/2010|

Its been on the news that person from another country sends a phony bank check and the gets your bank information and then cleans out the bank account. Do no fall for this The people on operating on craigslist.

craigslist scam or not? It involves a Certified Check?
Hello all, I hope someone can help me. I'm racking my mind trying to figure out all the information as possible before I reply to this e-mail. Well I just listed a watch on craigslist. And got an e-mail. Asking if it had been sold yet. I sent one back stating that it had not been sold. Then I got this message back:

Good to hear back from you, Hope it's in good condition like you
stated because I have taken a close look at the advert and am
completely satisfied, . I'll want you to remove the advert from web
and consider this item is sold to me, I'll be paying via Certified
check and the check will deliver to you by next day delivery .So i
want to be the best offer by offering you extra $100 to your money as
the best offer and i hope you will keep this item for me

1.....Full name to be writting on the check
2.....Full Physical address to mail the check (NOT P.O BOX)
3.....City, State and Zip Code
4.....Home & Cell Phone to contact you

Also you should be aware that you won't be responsible for shipping as
i will have my mover come over and pick it up as soon as you received
the check and. I also have some other goods i already bought in other
location which my mover will pick up alltogether. i will get back to
you once my secretary made the payment out to you.

Thanks

I don't know if anyone has dealt with this before.. But I'm unclear as to how I should respond. Anything helps. Thank you for your time. David

No you make the rules! or you can do it but you might as well include your social security & drivers license number along with Your bank account. why would they offer the extra 100.00- especially without even seeing the watch in person? be careful! (:>))

here is another sitehttp://www.craigslist.org/about/scams

You can sidestep would-be scammers by following these common-sense rules:

DEAL LOCALLY WITH FOLKS YOU CAN MEET IN PERSON - follow this one simple rule and you will avoid 99% of the scam attempts on craigslist.
NEVER WIRE FUNDS VIA WESTERN UNION, MONEYGRAM or any other wire service - anyone who asks you to do so is a scammer.
FAKE CASHIER CHECKS & MONEY ORDERS ARE COMMON, and BANKS WILL CASH THEM AND THEN HOLD YOU RESPONSIBLE when the fake is discovered weeks later.
CRAIGSLIST IS NOT INVOLVED IN ANY TRANSACTION, and does not handle payments, guarantee transactions, provide escrow services, or offer "buyer protection" or "seller certification"
NEVER GIVE OUT FINANCIAL INFORMATION (bank account number, social security number, eBay/PayPal info, etc.)
AVOID DEALS INVOLVING SHIPPING OR ESCROW SERVICES and know that ONLY A SCAMMER WILL "GUARANTEE" YOUR TRANSACTION

11|1|And most of all you sure don't want them to know where you live, you might come home one day to an empty house.|flapper|joyphalen@yahoo.com|12:59:18|12/02/2010|
