I dont normally like to complain about finances as I am sure most of us are in the same boat, but the last few weeks have been financially very hard on us, the dishwasher broke, ruined the new kitchen floor, my husband was fixing our garage door opener since it broke and he fell off a ladder sending him to the hospital, and yesterday on the way home from work, my car went, over $1000 to fix it. So needless to say I dont have this extra money especially with the holidays and 3 children, so what do you girls.guys do to earn extra money? I do have stuff on ebay but that does not seem to be going very well. I can use some ideas, we dont have extras so there are no extras to weed out, I cancelled our paper, lowered every bill I could so now what? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much. 1|1|It is tough all around My DH was able to bring in some extra cash by finding some handyman work Just this past|teener|teenerzacsneenee@yahoo.com|10:38:51|12/01/2010|

first off to help lower heating bills, seal around the windows/doors etc. I put one of those 'snake' type door sealers under both side of door to upstairs as hot air rises so keep heat downstairs here. (we can't use upstairs anyway due to both daughter's health issues). I also put dense foam pieces in the window edges of my windows at the sides..where it slides up and down..even though most are newer windows. I could still feel some cold air coming in there (old farmhouse so gotta deal with it)and that helped immensely.

Also do a comparison shop with your heating and electric companies. See who has the lowest 'lock in' rates. Done this for years now and saves a bundle. There is no competition for electric in this rural area but my gas there is. My gas budget is currently $36 a month..hard to beat that! :)I didn't have a big settle up bill last year either..in fact, got a refund.

Keep all lights and electric stuff off if not using it or in the room. For my gas, I try to use my crockpot as much as possible and not the oven. Can tell a BIG difference if I use the oven a lot on my gas bill since my oven is not energy star most likely since it's at least 16 yrs old.
I use cold water for all my laundry as well..only use hot if daughter's diapers overflow onto clothes or something like that for THAT WASH ONLY. Makes a BIG difference and most detergent is made to work in cold water these days as well as warm/hot so never a issue for me.

I always look at ads and compare and check sales with coupons I have before going shopping and buy what I need or can get free or cheap with sales/coupons etc. Would I like to have certain things ..like a couch (curently have no couch to our name)? sure..but do I NEED it? No. I can live without it till at some point I am able to purchase it when financially things are better hopefully in the future. I am sure I am the only person that has a recliner and a computer chair for front room/tv room furniture but not a big deal. It's a matter of priorities on things. :)

You could make the small cross-stitch ornaments to sell, they take 20-30 minutes to stitch.

You could take orders for them and personalize them. I got one a few years from a neighbor with a house on it and our family name at the bottom.

Offer to rake leaves for neighbors at a small fee?

Babysitting for a few hours while mom/dad christmas shop? Talk to a local daycare about posting a flyer at their site.

Also: Mysearchbonus.com - earn points for searching, redeem for gift cards. Lots to choose from! I just learned about a new search engine where you get 1 point per search (natural searching....) and once you hit 1,000 points, you can cash out for a $10 gift card. Just another great money making opportunity for searching the internet!
