I would recommend calling around to the delivery places within 30 miles of her house to see who will deliver the smallest amount. Many times, places will have a minimum of 100 gallons.

_.:~*~:._If we have traded, please leave appropriate feedback and I will do the same for you_.:~*~:._

I had to do that last winter. Took some cans to the gas station and got diesel and put it in the fuel oil tank. It surprised me when the fuel oil company told me that I could do this (I was afraid I was gonna blow up the house or something...lol)....but if you google it you will see that it can be used as a replacement. Of course you have to be extra careful carrying around 5 gallons of any kind of fuel that you don't get near flames or sparks or anything.

As for the delivery company, did she prepick the company that was going to deliver? If not, call around and see who will deliver less amounts. Some companies here will only deliver a certain minimum....but others are more sympathetic. If she did prepick, I'd call the assistance (LIHEAP?) office and tell them that the fuel delivery company is refusing to deliver.

This link says to use #2 Diesel - "As for using diesel in furnaces, #2 diesel is used most commonly to heat home. In times of shortage companies will ship diesel instead of oil. Number 2 diesel fuel is also named road diesel and is basically heating oil." Link: http://www.ehow.com/way_5468731_can-burn-diesel-fuel-furnace.html
