minion (plural minions)
1. A loyal servant of another, usually more powerful being.
peon (plural peons)
1. A lowly person, a peasant or serf.
Those are dictionary definitions though BOTH can be used to refer to a type of servant. However, peons are servants due to being of lower education/class/whatever and IMHO may be disgruntled and upset at their lot in life. Minions are more mindless henchmen who are unrelenting in their service to their master....they also would appear to be more loyal if not fanatical. You might have to be rather specific when giving instructions to a minion but they'd follow your words to the letter. If you're a Harry Potter fan, I'd say Dobbie's actions toward Harry would be more minion, but Crabbe and Goyle's loyalty and actions to Draco are more peon. Basically, one is happy to serve and the other feels they HAVE to serve.

And yes, I'd say most parents could (at SOME time in their kid's lives) be called a peon. And the same goes if you get ALL the joyful jobs of cooking and cleaning up after everyone with no thanks from the 'troops'.
