we don't need tons of turkey this yr so i just got a breast, and had read online that crockpot cooking yields really tender meat. anyone have tips on this method? thanks. and joy, my mom always uses one of those roasting bags and her turkeys come out lovely, with a butter/sage rub under the skin and a bit of flour thrown in the bag before you put in the turkey.

4|1|I always use 18qt roaster..sooo moist &|Skaytes|skaytez@gmail.com|05:41:14|11/23/2010|

easy to do..frees up the oven for other things to cook. I melt butter and inject it all over the turkey and baste it as well and put poultry seasoning all over the bird. The injection and cooking with that lid in the roaster really makes the meat sooo very moist and turkey tastes great! Always turkey was gone when I was married and we had tons of his relatives over each year. One year I never even GOT any of the turkey and it was huge! lol! 5|1|I always use a covered roaster but.....|maraj|maraj64@hotmail.com|08:58:41|11/23/2010|

I put the turkey in the oven on Weds. night before I go to bed, setting the oven temp at 200°. I baste it really good 1st w/butter/margarine & add a little Accent, meat tenderizer, salt & pepper. I might get up once or twice during the night to baste it some more w/the juices (the smell of the turkey cooking is heavenly while you sleep so my dog gets up to check on it too. LOL). Since I wake up between 5 & 6 each morning, that little red tab is usually popped up by that time & if so, I baste it again & then turn the oven temp down to 100° & leave it til shortly before we're ready to eat. A nice golden brown & moist.
Turkey tends to be drier than chicken but I've always had really good luck w/it being more moist when I do it that way. :)

6|1|Thank you, ladies :) I have some roasting bags, that is what I usually use....what about oven temp? I have read you cook it at high temp for about 45 mins then turn the temp down for the rest of the time, has anyone done that and what is the purpose? Also, I usually just rub in the seasonings, but I think I'll do what Kathy does and get some under the skin so the meat has more flavor :) Any other secret hints? :)|saint6811|waylan@comcast.net|16:53:40|11/23/2010|

also flavors the gravy I baste it often and when it starts to brown, I cover it with foil so it doesn't burn. People always love my turkey. I stuff it and bake it in the oven. I also use poultry seasoning or sage on the turkey.

My sister in law swears by the cooking in a bag method. Apparently cooks it very quickly and keeps it juicy. Although I've never had a problem with a dry turkey... mine always turn out great.
