I don't understand how this works (even tho I read the directions!!)

I sold stuff on Ebay and it says I can print postage at home.

Does that mean I print it, they take the money from Paypal and I take the package to the post office? Do you have to take it to the post office the same day?

Can mailman take it (do I arrange for pickup?)

I print the label online -- I do all mine through the paypal link in ebay.

Then I package everything up, tape on the printed label (paid for through paypal) and put it on the chair outside my front door. My mailman picks it up the next day.

You put the date on the label that you are mailing it. It's like your own postage metered stamp on it.

You are supposed to schedule a pick-up and then they come by and pick it up... but my mailman asked me not to.... maybe there is more paperwork or something that way.

But it's super easy and I NEVER have to run to the post office. Of course you have to have a scale at home to figure out the package weight.
