I think so :)|saint6811|waylan@comcast.net|17:27:37|11/10/2010|So I finally sell my daughters old bike for $20 and the in-laws are watching the kids while they are out of school the 11th and 12th saving us $32 in daycare expense this week and I'm thinking yipee! A few extra bucks.... then at lunch time today I notice the battery light on in my car..... I told my husband and we started checking battery prices. So I'm driving home from work and I'm just down the road from work and the car radio shuts off, then all the lights start flashing, the steering wheel got hard to turn.... I just happen to be passing Advanced Auto Parts and there was a break in the traffic... so I crossed the street and the car died right in the entrance to the auto parts place!
A man who works there was nice enough to check the battery and run a test on the car to see if it was the battery or alternator.. and it's the alternator (sp?). Dang it! He charged my battery and it gave us enough power to take it to the dealership. My car is not sitting on the lot waiting until tomorrow morning!
I have a extended warranty on the van, so I'm hoping it's covered. But the diagnostic they are going to charge us for is $90! I called the warranty company and they said my package DOES include alternators...although the dealership said they thought they didn't and gave us a estimate for $500 to fix it! YIKES!
As a backup a very nice man at the parts place offered to fix it for us for $70 labor and the price of the part $169.99. So at least I have a fall back plan. Because there is no way I can afford $500! I'm usually scraping by right before payday.
Thankfully my husband and I thought ahead a few years back. Things continually got tighter and tighter and we scraped to pay for the extra warranty when the original one ran out, just because we knew things were going to get worse before they got better! And luckily we did! We have used it several times already. My van has a whopping 34,000 miles on it! I can't believe it needs another repair! I'm hoping this one only costs the $90! I really don't have extra money.
Laurie 1|1|Thank goodness for the warranties....I posted about my van and the suspension/tie rod issues, my warranty saved me a TON of money! but without the warranty they easily would have exceeded $1,000.00. $200 is still more than I can afford to spend. I'll be paying for it at the end of the month.... but I'll figure something out. Thankfully the freezer and pantry is stocked... I can skip major grocery trips for a while.

by the time you put the pack and play, the diaper bag, the car seat with the baby, the stroller, etc. in the car, there is no room for anything else! Gets worse when you have 2 kids! We went from a Dodge Caravan to a Dodge Grand Caravan. The Caravan wasn't big enough for two little kids stuff when they were babies! LOL

be that there is really another part that is not working properly and causing this part to work harder and die?
For instance, my battery kept dying and here it turns out that I really had a bad alternator and that's what was causing the battery to go.
I had a problem with a water pump once and it was a bad engine that was causing the problem.
