Gotta get 12 to 15 turkeys for the church food pantry for folks receiving a food basket this year (due to very hard times) and NOBODY is willing to say when the sales are gonna happen.

Called 3 corporate offices...and they all say "uh.....soon! " One said "we have some nice ones at $1.17 a pound now" Uh....I don't think so.

AND one of my local store meat managers said "confidentially, no chain want's to advertise their price first because the other chains then reduce THEIR prices...it's a game " I kid you not, that's what he said.

Supposedly Kroger was to have a two day unadvertised sale on the one brand ...$.59 cents a pound...but our stores say no, they don't.

Okay...I realize Bratwurst and dressing isn't quite what the Pilgrim's may have had in mind, but I can't let it go much longer for these poor families that won't have a traditional dinner without Church food pantry help.

Betcha next year we switch to ham or something else.

Unless, of course, some of the turkey crop has been recalled....but no word on that either!

Whine, Whine, Whine...

Viv, Just a Grannie in Michigan 1|1|I noticed that here too....one of my local stores finally put turkey on sale this week for 79c/lb, but the other local store had no turkeys on sale....so, do I take the 79c/lb or hold out for next week for the other store???? My son works at the second store, I'm sending in a mole!|saint6811|waylan@comcast.net|15:23:43|11/09/2010|

We will have enough "points" at another store to get a free turkey OR a free Stouffers party size lasagna. I will get the free lasagna which we have a habit of eating on New Year's Eve to give me the night off :) I just toss a salad and make garlic bread and it feeds my family + my sister and her two teenagers.

At .48 per pound for turkey and the size limit on the "free" one, I am getting a better deal on a free lasagna; and will probably buy a small turkey for my freezer for later in the Fall. 4|1|safeway|joseph|parkerjoe3@yahoo.com|16:01:13|11/09/2010|

Maybe tomorrow....can't do the $.39 a pound with #20 additional purchase for 12 to 15 turkeys...YIKES ~

Still hoping...thinking that maybe someone will have a decent price WITHOUT needing the additional purchases...the church school kids have made it a project to bring in all the additional items for a turkey dinner...so we're just looking for the turkey costs now..

Thanks for all your imput...and for helping me cope with the frustration.
