Last year I adopted a shelter dog. She is part lab part beagle, somewhere between 2 and 4 years old. She finally graduated to no crate status and my husband and I were confident all food was out of her reach. She is a real scavenger. When I got home from work last Monday I found milky way wrappers all over the floor- 14 to be exact. She was very restless, pacing, thirsty, etc. I called the vet and she said she did not eat the amount that would cause toxicity in dogs (heart arrhythmias, seizures, coma). At 11 pm she began vomiting more wrappers and it seems she got some dark chocolate as well which is more toxic than milk chocolate. I had to rush her to the emergency room to rule out obstruction and chocolate toxicity. Well $1500 later she is fine and back on crate status.
