6 0|0|Do young school-age kids still play with actual toys? At what age did they start wanting only handheld or video games IPods etc?|missy|lovetotrade@hotmail.com|13:08:23|10/11/2010|

My youngest grandson, age 9, inspired by the older kids, now only wants the electronic stuff. I feel that he has missed out on so many things that the others enjoyed years before. But I guess gaming systems were not SO available/popular back then. Comments??

The only good thing seems to be that it is now easier to buy for the older kids, who used to be a real problem for gift-giving occasions. BUT, who can AFFORD what they want!?!?!?

I guess I am somewhat bummed out by the whole thing.

We limit the Christmas gifts to ONE game. Doesn't matter what system but the most they get is one game. The rest of what they get has to be clothes, or puzzles, crafts, toys, etc.

I hope you are right about their learning something with gaming. But there is so much VIOLENCE in many of the games!! 4|2|It's a good topic...|sunriver|sunriver@gmail.com|16:19:41|10/11/2010|

My kids have a Nintendo 64 which they play a couple times a year and the middle has an old gameboy which up until this summer just sat in a box. This summer it was her favorite thing and honestly if I hadn't been so busy and distracted I would have limited a whole lot more. Before gameboy she spent most of her time drawing and trying to read (not easy for her, but she has made leaps of progress). She is 10. My 4 yr old's favorite things are small character toys (like Happy Meal types), she has a stack that she treasures and her blocks are her other most played with toys. She spent the whole morning making a club house with a box, scissors (kid ones), tape and pens.

We've talked about getting a Wii, but it isn't a priority. I like that they have to use their imaginations more. Mine all play with yo-yo's and can play a mean game of hop-scotch too. :0)

To the original poster: is there anything that he might be interested in that he doesn't even know about yet? How about a chemistry set? A microscope or telescope? What do you remember from your childhood that you want to share with him? He probably won't remember the year he got a game, but he would remember the year you sat down with him and showed him what you loved. 6|3|Awesome Response, thanks:)|missy|lovetotrade@hotmail.com|09:59:29|10/13/2010|

:) 5|1|Cheyenne wanted a Wii so bad the past couple years and last year she got one and guess what? She rarely plays it. The Wii has only been played a handful of times, I think the last time she played it was in April or May. She prefers arts and crafts, reading, playing with her dolls and other things :) |RebekkaVA|queen_vulture@msn.com|16:21:26|10/12/2010|
