I sent a b-day card to my niece's little girl the other day & included a wooden nickel that I knew had sentimental value to my niece as it was from years back when her paternal Grandpa owned/ran a tavern. It had her Grandpa's nickname on the one side of it, & sadly, he just passed away Sept. 13th.
I took the card to the PO & paid extra postage which the Postal clerk said would insure that it would be HAND CANCELLED so it wouldn't go thru the machine & break the wooden nickel. I'd even written, "Please Hand Cancel" on the outside of the envie.
Well.... My niece's little girl got the card yesterday & the wooden nickel was broken in 2. :(
I'm SOOOO ticked at the PO right now I could spit nails!!
My niece's dh was able to fix it & get it back together, but I'm still totally irate cuz it should NOT have happened when I was assured that paying the extra postage would prevent that!
SOOOO glad they didn't get the postal rate increase they wanted cuz they sure do NOT deserve it. Grrrr!
Fact of life: After Monday and Tuesday..even the CALENDAR says...

was put in the wrong mail box at my apartment building to boot, thank-god some people are honest and they brought me the pkg. And I was really upset as the case is from the 70's, and cannot get another one like it!
