My son lives in a big city & was told by the mail carrier that they don't pick up out-going mail from residences.... Out-going mail has to be deposited at the PO or in any number of the PO's outside drop-off boxes somewhere.
Is this something new or is it only for bigger cities?
My son lives in an apt. complex that has one of those security type boxes w/several boxes that require a key for each individual box. The weird part is that there's a slot for the tenants to deposit their out-going mail, which only the postal carrier can retrieve when he/she opens the big door on the other side to deliver each one's mail.....
Fact of life: After Monday and Tuesday..even the CALENDAR says...

I would tell him to call the Postamster and ask.
I lived in a very large city and we still had outgoing mail pickup at my apartment. I think he may have a lazy carrier that doesn't want to lug the outgoing around with him.

I would call the Post Master and ask directly. If they are NOT to pick up outgoing mail from the outgoing mail slots anymore then ask your son to please put tape over the slot so no one else has their mail sit there for weeks and weeks wondering what's going on. Yes, I completely understand that SHOULD be the job of the PO but obviously they don't care. JMHO
Now, if the mail carrier IS supposed to pick up the outgoing mail from the respective slots I'd have my son send ME a lil something everyday for 2 weeks and check everyday to be sure it's gone. Of course this wouldn't prevent the mail carrier from being a jerk and tossing the out going mail but perhaps a call to the PM will spark a lil fire under someone's butt. LOL

We do still pick up outgoing mail. I pick it up from residences, businesses, apt.'s, blue boxes, etc. Anywhere I deliver if there is mail to go out, I take it. Yes, there are still blue boxes (collection boxes) around besides at the PO. lol Every apt complex here has an outgoing mail slot that is to be emptied everyday. Heck, I have people drive up to me on the street and hand me mail and say "Can you mail this off for me?". lol I just take it all... lol
The Post Office motto is "There is only one boss I have to please and that is my customers."
I would call the PO and just ask them about it.
