The bad news is I went for a simple oil change today at the dealer where I bought my 2005 Caravan.....they found out the lower gasket (??) is leaking and to replace it requires the engine to be lifted out (3 hours of labor!), and they also found that I need new tie rods....all to the tune of $834! :O (I knew about the tie rods, last week I got all the tires replaced and they said the same thing--was going to set up an appointment for that next week).

The good news is that it is all covered under warranty and I only have to pay $89 for an alignment when they are done due to the tie rods being replaced! :D Seems that the extended warranty I got when I bought the van is good for 7 yrs or 100,000 miles.....I had no idea my warranty was still good, I though I'd gotten a five year bumper to bumper, which would have expired this past January....all I can say is WHEW! This one job will pretty much pay for the warranty itself, and I still have over a year left on it. And Lord knows, when a vehicle is 6 yrs old already, all kinds of things are bound to go wrong. I told the mechanic to give my van a good going over and find anything and everything that needs to be fixed so I can get it all done before the warranty runs out in Jan 2012, lol!

" You'll get what's coming to you ... Unless it was mailed."

1|1|That is good news! Mine is in the shop too I wish I had bought my extended warranty when my car died the car company told me it was the engine so we started saving., I was told it was $5k for a new engine! And at the time we did have a warranty they said that they refused to pay the engine because it (more)|sarahjones|beautiful1000000@gmail.com|14:49:19|09/17/2010|

our neglect because we were missing one oil change. Come to find out it was not the engine at all from our new mechanic it was the turbochargers and it is $2200 to fix them and the warranty would have covered those too but I did not renew it since I fought and fought with the company to fix it. So long story short is I would have had to pay $5k for a new engine that did not even need replacing. So we fixed the car and since its so expensive to fix this car it is going up for sale or trade in lol.
5|2|Sarah, if I hadnt gone for this oil change today, I would have been paying almost $300 next week for the tie rods.....and I'd still not even know about the lower gasket leak! I can't even find my original warranty info, I wonder if I pitched it when I paid off the van last year thinking it was expired. |saint6811|waylan@comcast.net|16:49:36|09/17/2010|

So glad that you had that covered - both of our cars need new gaskets due to the leaking & it smells like your car is on fire!
We got Todd's car done, since we use that to travel to Little Rock so much and it was $487.53.

Mine will be around $350.00 but we have to wait on it since we don't have the funds for it.

My son's car had a leaky head gasket (or so we thought) but come to find out a head was cracked. :( Got that & the timing gears fixed in May to the tune of $900. Drove it for a month & then it started acting up. Thought/HOPED it was just the alternator. No, couldn't be that simple. The bearing on motor was shot. Sooo...... Had to get a different engine to the tune of $1200. Just got the call on Thurs. evening that it was finally ready so I went to pick it up for him yesterday. Wasn't ready after all cuz the mechanic then noticed a little bit of anti-freeze leaking out of the head on THIS engine. Sooo.... He has to put in a new head gasket & now it won't be ready til Mon.
And my son is w/out a job as of Thurs. so now he REALLY, REALLY needs his car so he can look for another one.
My mom has never driven & w/my son's car on the fritz, I've been doing ALOT of running in every different direction in the last few mos. I've been tired & cranky & praying like crazy that my own vehicle stays operational. Need to get it in for a thorough going-over before winter so am hoping & praying everything checks out!
I've about had it! LOL

why did they let you leave if your tie rods were bad. If a tie rod breaks you lose your steering. By lower gasket do they mean rear main seal might just be different terminology I am unfamiliar with a lower gasket but I have almost no experience with Chrysler products.

email me if interested
please send your board name in your email thanks
I am looking for offers in concealed cash ayor Stamps or BTFE or make an offer in???? I can accept personal paypal or if you cover any fees

I mail all my trades from the post office and get a receipt.

you always hear noises in the dark when you work at night 12|2|The tie rods are 'ok' for now, but show signs of needing to be replaced......the tire place earlier this week said the same thing, and they would know nothing about the warranty like the dealer shop did. My DH's friend, who is a mechanic at yet another place, looked at them to see how bad they were after we took the van for tires, and he said it would be ok for a while, but to get it fixed in the next couple weeks. I was going to have him take my van to work this coming week to be fixed before I found out the warranty is still good and I need to have it done at the dealer. As for the name of the gasket, that is what the mechanic called it, so dont know if it's short-hand for another term or not.|saint6811|waylan@comcast.net|15:36:48|09/18/2010|
