17 0|0|If a bad trader is trying to clear his name...|couponshelmd|couponshel@comcast.net|20:10:22|09/16/2010|
Posted on Sep-16-10 at 08:10 PM (Eastern) by 174.54.82.253

do I have to take an offer? In other words, if he no longer has my portion of the trade, can he just make up something and then when I say "no" his name is cleared because he tried? I don't know how to handle this situation because I would like to be fair but he is on the list for harming three of us. I am thinking if he is allowed to offer us crap and we say no thanks, that does not clear his name?

I sent a $50 starbucks gift card in exchange for a $50 Sharper Image gift certificate... turns out it was a promotional code for his use only, off his next order. Any way, he is now offering me a $70 "savings pass" code for some .com flowers company that is totally useless to me, even if that code is valid. On the Sharper Image, because they would not take the gift code and didn't tell me (charged the total balance to my credit card), I had to pay to return the item (they charged and then credited my Visa but would not refund shipping $ because he reported me to them for fraud in trying to use the code). So really I am out my original $50 Starbucks plus the money I lost returning the item because I simply could not afford the $50 purchase.

I would think to clear his name, wouldn't he need to offer me something of equal value that I can actually use? I am waiting to hear back from Garnette but am hoping he didn't tell her that he made me a reasonable offer. ??
Thanks,

you traded in good faith that it was something YOU could use when it wasn't he should have either gave you back your card and money you had to pay for shipping or at the very least a card that was of use for you Linda 2|1|Let me guess....this is Steve Tan, right? No, you dont have to accept an offer that you cannot use, or is not acceptable to you in regards to the item you sent...if you are really in doubt, email Garnette and ask her opinion, but I dont see how you should be forced to take something you arent thrilled with.|saint6811|waylan@comcast.net|20:17:57|09/16/2010|

until I bother responding to him. It was the way he worded his "offer" as if it were something worth $70 ; and made it sound like it was going to be his only offer... like take it or leave it because this is going to clear his name. He indicated that another trader of the three didn't want his trade so he now owes her nothing.

I am so very upset because I had put this behind me and now I am thinking how nice it would be to have some gift card worth $50 for holiday shopping... like all he did was tease me :( 5|3|LOL, he is posting on another board about getting his trades cleared up....but you arent the only one he made an initial offer of something totally unrelated to the original trade or something that isnt as great as he makes it sound.....there is no way you should have to accept that, and I dont think Garnette would consider it cleared if you dont accept what he sends or offers to send. If he were to just send you the value of the original trade in PP, then I would imagine you would have to accept that, as it is like cash.|saint6811|waylan@comcast.net|20:28:57|09/16/2010|

6|4|Oh, and since he played extra dirty and tried to make you look like you did something wrong using that Sharper Image code, I'd say he may even owe you the cost of the shipping to return those items!|saint6811|waylan@comcast.net|20:30:26|09/16/2010|

3|1|If he does not have what is offered he should offer you full value in cash - Unless he has something you actually want you do not have to take it and he it i still a bad trade. |RobinsCrazyWorld|robinmarie72@gmail.com|20:21:03|09/16/2010|

As w/any bad trader, if he/she is sincere in clearing their trades & their name, it is to be something YOU can use & are satisfied with since you wouldn't have agreed to trade w/them in the 1st place if they didn't have something you wanted or could use, kwim?
Just because he/she offers something doesn't mean you have to accept it.
I would say this trader owes you the value of that $50 gc AND the amount of the shipping fee that you incurred when you had to return the item, because HE's the reason they wouldn't return your shipping.
Until a bad trader offers & you receive something that is satisfactory to YOU, no, you are NOT obligated to accept anything. And the trade is NOT considered cleared until then.
HTH. :)

Fact of life: After Monday and Tuesday..even the CALENDAR says...
W..T..F..

Please identify yourself in 1st email w/name/username. Due to recent problem trades, if I haven't traded w/you before, I will probably require you send your end 1st or I'll need LEGIT trade references/feedback. I will be happy to provide the same. IF you plan to hold your end til you've received mine, I will need to know that IMMEDIATELY, BEFORE trade is finalized.

If you're happy w/our trade, please leave feedback for me at:

I'll gladly do the same for you upon request.:)

He has been very misleading on trying to clear his name. I just didn't understand the process, so I didn't want him to get off that easily with making me a silly offer. No, I don't trust him with any codes, because that has already cost me in the past. I don't buy flowers online, so that idea of a "savings pass" is just crazy since he owes me a useful $50 gift certificate in my mind.

I did hear back from Garnette and she will not let him get away with his nonsense, now that I know I can turn down his offer I have replied to him; I DO NOT KNOW if he trades on this board at the present time, but Garnette does such a great job of tracking people. Because there is a fee for her list service, I do not wish to post a lot of information because it is her hard work, not mine. 13|1|UPDATE: trader has paid|couponshelmd|couponshel@comcast.net|16:41:51|09/17/2010|

At least I now understand the bad traders list process ;) I have received paypal from the trader to cover our original trade and am happy to say that even though it took almost 5 years, it could not have come at a better time; that money is much needed in our household right now.

Thanks for all who helped me to "get a clue" as my niece always says,
Shel 14|1|Wooohooo thats great but I still would never trade with him even if he clears the last one he owes lol|teener|teenerzacsneenee@yahoo.com|16:44:17|09/17/2010|

15|2|Here, here! It is obvious he's only trying to get off the list......there's really no remorse or intent to be honest...his motives are selfish.|saint6811|waylan@comcast.net|16:47:55|09/17/2010|

I was thinking how he words his emails, he is not sorry at all that he shorted people. He is just sorry that he found out he had to clear all three trades to get off the list. However, I am extremely glad to have gotten something useful and hope he is able to fix the last trade on his list, too. 16|2|teener, there is no way :) I have 100% learned my lesson..|couponshelmd|couponshel@comcast.net|16:52:35|09/17/2010|

He was not even on the radar 5 years ago, I think I was one of the first victims. Over the years I have seen his name pop up again and again; and of course I would not trust him again, not even for paypal. He could easily say he didn't get my end, etc.

I think I can admit here, what I did not tell him, there are TEARS in my eyes right. With two kids and a constant list of stuff that needs fixed around the house... there is no way this could have come at a better time for our family. In fact, I called my sister and told her that God answers our prayers in the weirdest ways some days :) Today was my day :)
Thanks,
Shel
