I inherited a dinosaur cat. I've had her for 3 years. I noticed lately she's forgetting where the litter box is. I think no problem, accidents happen. Until last week!! My couch has become her #1 choice. Took her to the vet yesterday. Found out she's 14 1/2 years old and weighs 5.5 lbs. They did bloodwork and something with her kidneys. Heard back from the vet today. Kidney function is fine and no infections. Bloodwork shows she has a hyper thyroid. He prescribed a cream, in her ear, and her issues should work themselves out. Now my question....how do I get the smell out of my couch? The cushion has like a pillow top on it, so throwing it in the washing machine won't work. When I had my dog, I remember something called Nature's Miracle, but that was a long time ago. Anybody have a proven recommendation that works? I remember it wasn't cheap, and I'm starting to get tired of constantly cleaning and spraying. 1|1|If you have an Ashley furniture store near you or a value city store they have great deals on new stuff lol I have found over th eyears with all th ecats that I have|teener|teenerzacsneenee@yahoo.com|21:57:03|09/09/2010|

I had to rent a carpet machine with the attachment and use that to clean the couch cushion with, it got all the pee out, but on hot days could still smell the urine as their pee scents the fabric..When I moved I just ended up throwing the couch out and bought a new one.

There is no easy way to clean the cushion and I've been literally soaking it with every cleaning product in my cabinet. The weather's still nice so I'm hoping to take it out back tomorrow and hit it with the hose and some other kind of cleaner and let the sun dry it. For right now I have aluminum foil on it. Not attractive, but it's been a positive deterrent. What we don't do for our fur babies! 4|2|And this would be why we bought laminate to replace the carpet in our whole house... so sorry! I even had a ChemDry guy come to try to get the urine out. If your kitty has really concentrated pee, I don't know if you'll ever get it out honestly. Chem Dry has an enzyme based solution they just dump down and it has to be left to dry on its own. It worked for maybe a week then it was pee city again. |Sara_s_Mom|IClipCoupons@gmail.com|08:11:50|09/10/2010|

It was so gross. We finally had to rip the carpet out and all the padding was just soaked with pee. We ripped it all out and had to fix the concrete floor underneath b/c the pee was ruining that too. So we painted over it with garage floor paint and put carpet tiles down and now keep the door closed to that room Kitty finally goes in his litter box.

Cat pee is very different than dog pee. It soaks through and just sits there and NEVER goes away. 6|1|You'll never get it totally out---but vinegar does help neutralize the odor|Abbicca|Abbicca@insightbb.com|13:04:15|09/10/2010|

If you've already thrown every cleaner at it... I'm guessing soaking it in vinegar won't do much other damage. Vinegar is cheap too....I'd do a 50/50 mix and SOAK it. Let it sit awhile before hosing it REAL well to rinse it all out. I did a concoction of vinegar, dish detergent, and some baking soda (gotta be careful with vinegar and baking soda together).

We never had the problem on furniture (thank God) but carpets got hosed. We tried the carpet cleaner and normal solution......then literally saturated it in vinegar and used the machine to suction it off. Cleaners with ammonia will actually attract a cat to pee there again......vinegar is a cheap deterrent---cat's don't like the smell.

I also found this website..... since I had one area of my carpet that was "special".

http://www.catsofaustralia.com/urinestainremoval.htm

It has a link to removal from a mattress which might be helpful. 7|1|Thanks Amy!|lisa_k|lisak_0130@yahoo.com|20:34:31|09/10/2010|

I tested the 50/50 vinegar, water on the "accidents" on the carpet. It's AMAZING, and a gallon jug of vinegar costs only $2.59! I can't wait to take the sofa cushion out back tomorrow and work on it. Tomorrow morning I'll do the baking soda mix on the carpet. I enjoy smelling vinegar so much more than the alternative. 8|1|If this works to get rid of skunk spray oder, maybe it'll work on cat pee..... (m)|maraj|maraj64@hotmail.com|07:19:30|09/11/2010|

Dilute per 1 gallon pail of water a mix of 1/2 C. baking soda, 1/4 C. hydrogen peroxide & about a tsp. of Dawn dishwashing liquid. Use that mix to soak your couch cushion in, rinse thoroughly w/1/2 C. white vinegar diluted per 1 gal. of clean water. Rinse again w/lots of plain, clean water & dry completely.
Test for color fastness 1st cuz hydrogen peroxide is a bleaching agent but is also an odor neutralizer like the baking soda & vinegar.
The mix of baking soda, hydrogen peroxide & Dawn works wonders on getting out skunk smell so hopefully that mix combined w/the vinegar rinse will help w/the cat pee smell. :)
One of my little dogs got sprayed by a skunk years back & that mix is the ONLY thing that finally got the horrible smell out of everything. :)
