over the counter ones can make them sick. Vacuum the carpet really well, wash all sheets & rugs, shampoo the carpet (if possible) and spray the floor with raid flea spray (purple can)

I know it sounds daunting but it really does work! Trust me I have been there!! LOL I think the sprays work better than the bombs because fleas are on surfaces and mostly on the floor. The cannot jump higher than a couple of feet in the air.

Good luck. It will get better. 4|2|Get the pills from the vet, they have a couple of diffrent types. There are the 24 hr ones that call all fleas and eggs within 24 hrs and then they have the 30 day pill. I'd defintely give those a try along with treating your yard.|jen_ron|bugsmamma@earthlink.net|23:16:16|08/14/2010|

after you do everything put wheatgerm in their food. works for dogs and cats. it changes the way the skin taste and the fleas don't like it. good luck melody 7|1|fleas|mcox|DMC716@WEBTV.NET|16:54:40|08/15/2010|

You get the tubes from a vet & apply 1 tube per month between the animal's shoulder blades (this is the area on dogs & cats that they can't reach to lick). You can usually buy as many or as few tubes as you want at a time.
I don't have any cats but I've found the Frontline Plus to be the best & safest for my dog(s). I'm sure the same applies for cats.
There's reg. Frontline that just kills the adult fleas & then there's Frontline Plus that kills the adult fleas, the eggs & the larvae, so it breaks the cycle quicker w/no worries about the eggs/larvae surviving in your carpet, furniture, etc. - you only have to treat each pet so NO need to treat the whole house! :) Otherwise, flea eggs can actually survive up to 2 yrs. in carpet. :(
Oh, & the Frontline Plus also kills ticks, including deer ticks which are carriers of Lyme Disease.

A couple of tried & true tricks I've learned over the yrs. in reducing the chances of my little ones getting fleas & ticks &/or bitten by mosquitoes, stung by bees (my dog is allergic to bees!):

1. Use Frontline Plus monthly.
2. Keep lawn & weeds trimmed short.
3. Walmart sells some good stuff called Seven that works for up to, I think, 4 mos. You apply it to your lawn to kill numerous types of bugs such as fleas, ticks, earwigs, mosquitoes, bees, ants, spiders, etc., etc. If you get the granules, you'll want to either water your lawn immediately after applying the Seven or apply the Seven right before it rains. The water/rain helps release the bug killing chemicals into the soil. Keep pets off lawn til it's dried. Seven also comes in a powder form I believe. If you buy the powder you want to make sure you apply it on a day w/no wind. I usually buy the granules & apply it at the beginning of spring & again 3-4 mos. later.
HTH. :)

3 doses cost $42.00, which was cheaper than at vet's where they wanted $25 a dose. It worked wonders for these dogs.
