He was able to buy a program and get most of his lost items off the hard drive. Without a program like that you can't get stuff back if it is wiped out. FYI no mater how hard people try to wipe everything off their PC it is always there.... it was not. I did not try to fix it on my own I took the computer to a reputable company (not geek squad or anything like that a local business that had a repport with the BBB) and they were able to save everything. It cost more to have this done but it was worth it in the end, I mean pictures are PRICELESS so a couple hundred bucks to get them back AND have the system wiped and reloaded was nothing in comparison to losing them. What did you spend that much money on to fix your computer, Please? I have a lot of Free software programs that I use on my computer, they are Excellent, compared to the Paid Versions. Just ask Saint6811, I gave her a few of them for her computer.
I have a 7 1/2 years Compaq computer with Windows XP SP3 installed, my first year I had issues with it, but since then. Nothing. I break it down every 6 months, removing all the dust that is built up inside of it, using a can of spray air around the fans, etc. Put it back together again and set to go for another 6 months. Restart computer and it should start up from the CD where you will be given the option to Repair or Re-Install Windows.
Hopefully it will just need a repair and then all of your items should still be there.
You will then have to restart, press F2 and change the booting sequence to it's original item.

Course I sat there all day watching the screen move and boot and whatever they did it worked They saved it all and got me up and running. YIPEE. So if you can get Norton ya better be using it, there seems to be so many viruses & worms & stuff just waiting to take over.
