With so many people needing a little bit of help how would/do you feel about a person getting help for a specific thing and then spending the money on something totally different?

Like if they needed money to pay their electric bill but then had to use it for rent,I dont think that would bother me but if they used said money for buying new shoes and not the electric bill then I would be upset. For those curious the money raised from the angel auction for matt's vasectomy was not anywhere near enough to cover it. We've been told we have to have 20% of the surgery up front prior to it. We were told it could be in the range of $400+

I feel i can add my 2 cents...bear with me if i offend any one as you all know my emotions are running hard this week. First of all...that auction actually started out as a joke more than anything. It was originally a gag between several of us. A normal angel auction that comes from one of the 6 core people that we discuss potential needs for a person was not done. It was a spoof to start with. As one of Kristy's closest on the board, it was something that they desperately did want to get done...but financially it would have been impossible.
There are other factors financially that take precendence...and things have changed dramatically for them. She is actually going to start working outside the home due to the situation. I understand that things change...and also know that they have been doing everything they could to avoid another baby, sans one thing...NOT THAT THAT is anyones business in my opinion!!!
Bottom line....this should have been asked to either the host or the person that it was for....I have traded with you Jackie many times, and really like you as a trader. I also know that you and Kristy tend to not always see things the same way...as does most of the board. This really disappoints me that you had to do this, when it should be a time of positive thinking....there are many other factors you do not know...and had you asked...Jodie

This is the silliest thing I've ever read. I can't believe that anyone thought that auction was for real. It was a spoof a joke. All the more power to Kristy if they are having number 8, I had 6 & that was scary enough for me. Most of us would run away if we had 8, but Kristy strikes me as the natural mother type & trust me I really don't know her, so if she wants 8 or even if she didn't want 8 but God gave them to her then for her sake I hope she's happy. I hope the money went for something they really needed or even just a fun day, God knows with 7 kids she needs it. Let it go & don't bid on any auctions if you don't like what happens. I don't bid on them but it's more because I can't afford it anymore.

I think of the Waltons. ;) Sounds kind of cheesey, but I watched that show faithfully as a kid (love the re-runs when I catch them!). As an adult, I envy the large gathering of children & the abundance of love around the table at Thanksgiving or surrounding the bright Christmas tree singing Christmas carols, the happy chatter & giggles of little ones roasting marshmallows & sipping hot chocolate by the fire on a cool evening.
It wears me out just to think of how busy she must be running a household for 9 (soon 10), but it's not like she's competing w/John & Kate or the Duggars for a reality show. LOL

to answer your question Jackie, I would be taken back if money was raised for a specific item and it clearly wasnt used for that in an angel auction...why? so many participate in these angel auctions, giving their stuff and time because of what "they" thought they were contributing towards...to use it for something else is just like lying...JMHO...
I dont participate openly in angel auctions, dont want/need the recognition, and while I think they are ok, I personally would never be on the receiving end short of a life/death situation. M

I still don't understand why anyone assumed it was in the first place. And I don't understand why Kristy even thought it was about her......... we haven't spoken (othern than for one coupon trade and possible a couple of back and fourths here on the boards) in almost a year so why would I post anything about her?. And as Joy stated, I didn't even participate in that particular auction so why on earth would it bother me on a personal level?
I was merely asking a question on how people on THIS forum would feel if THEY donated to an angel auction and the money was used for something ENTIRELY different than orginally posted. I used the specific words Angel and RS and Auction because that is how most of us donate to a specific person or cause on THIS site. (I already stated that.) I never even said that this was about a coupon site either.
The type of thing I'm asking about happens all of the time on sites all over the place. Anyone ever heard of Helping Orphaned Hounds? They are a group on Facebook and do this very thing. They ask for donations for this and spend it on that. (Just to give an example)
I also don't understand why it is that people can assume others are correct and cuss at me about it BEFORE even finding out if what OTHERS said is true or not. *shakes head*

And unless the amount needed is $100 or thereabouts, we usually don't raise ALL of it. As long as the recipient uses it for a NECESSITY and not a LUXURY, it doesn't bother me in the least bit what they use it for. Most of us use coupons because somewhere along the line, times got real tough and we learned how to use them well.... and we try to get the most for our money---ANY money. If we raised money in an angel auction for someone's utility bill and they were able to get an extension or payment plan on it....but had a 22% credit card bill due, it would only make sense to get the higher interest rate bill down first.
Bottom line: we all spend our money as we think it BEST.
And I don't even mind if I see someone who had an angel auction done for them bidding on another auction----as long as it is useful items being auctioned off. If it is coupons, forms, GC's, and stamps in it---it'll save them more than it costs them...which frees up more money in the long run. If it was an auction for Jimmy Chu (sp?) shoes or a Coach handbag, I'd have a problem with it as those are WANTS and not NEEDS.
And often we are raising money for a LARGE bill. We may HELP with it, but we don't cover it. And if we are raising money for a FUTURE needed purchase, it makes sense to use the money in the most cost effective way NOW. If they totally pay off a bill that frees up $20 per month, then they can recoup the angel auction money and MORE.... and actually get to buy the item QUICKER than if they'd set the money aside in a bank account waiting to raise/save the rest of it.
Bottom line #2: if I think the recipient TRIED to use the money WISELY, then I don't care what they used it for.

There several people on this site who sent money to help(and I will ever be grateful,,,,,Kristy being one of many) . Even though i told people on RS I had raised enough money to cover the entire year, and already had paid the school for it., they insisted on sending it anyway. So I thanked them, and used the extra money to buy a new pair of sneakers my daughter needed desperately. So it did not go for the intended purpose, but it took care of a need, I could not otherwise take care of. How would anyone KNOW for a fact that Angel auction money raised didn't go for where it was supposed to? There's no way unless I was referring to myself or was physically right w/the person from the time they received the auction money to when they spent it, it would be an ASSUMPTION on my part as I wouldn't really know for a fact when, where or how they spent it. I wouldn't even know for sure that the auction recipient is the one who spent it, kwim? LOL
Just kind of puzzling if someone were to claim to know how it was spent, & they really don't. That would be assuming now wouldn't it??

way. We started doing these with no "rules" that anyone had to follow. Someone knew of someone that needed some help and emailed around and those that could help did, those that couldn't at the moment, did the next time. Anyone and everyone that would send their ends was welcome to contribute. Those that had the time, ran them on the board. The money was sent to the person it was done for and it was over. There was no accountability, nor should there have been to those who participated. If you want to help someone from your heart, you don't insist on knowing where the money went. You knew it was needed and that was that. Almost every single person who has had an auction done for them has paid it foward when they could. There is enough stress going on in someone's life who needs help, the last thing they need is the people involved in the Auction wanting to know where the money (that they never asked for)was going to.

when I see how so many are in need on RS I just dont feel right being the recipient...thats just me. It would really have to be a serious situation for me to be ok with it. I just feel like Im taking from others no matter if they are willing or not...its a blessing to be amoung a group of people so willing to help and do for others, I love giving and helping others.....
personally when I saw this post I instantly thought about an rs member who posted some time ago (I think it was cathy with the quads (or is it triplets) about a friend who claimed to have cancer, all her friends got together and raised money for her to go on a dream vacation and they later found she was cancer free, she never asked for the money, they did this to be kind and help her......this story made the news (the rs'er posted a link to it)This woman said she was told she had cancer, and she didnt feel she needed to let anyone know she was later cancer free or give the money back, once it was given to her she felt like it was a gift. Needless to say others felt like with accepting the gift given to her because they thought she had cancer (the friends said they dont just go around paying for someone to have a vacation) came with a courtesy not a responsibility to say when things had changed.
I see this situation is personal for many members here. I really wish it wasnt, and I also wish stuff like this didnt cloud our honesty. None of us are perfect and NO MAN owns heaven or hell to put us in. We all wont agree but we should atleast try and be fair and honest..it matters not so much to others but to ourselves (the building of our true character)as well

No one knows Jackie's true intention with her question but Jackie.
If Jackie asked this question just as a dig to Kristy, then shame on her.
If Jackie asked this question as just a question then shame on those who have attacked her. Personally I thought personal bickering and swearing weren't allowed on RS but maybe the MODS
have missed this. I know a person got reprimanded for say h e double hockey sticks.
Jackie does bring up a very valid point.
While a person may not ask for an angel auction, it is usually held for some specific reason. It usually is not a lets just give so and so a hundred or two hundred dollars and let them spend it on whatever they want, at least that is my take on it.
I think it is great that angel auctions are held, we still must consider Jackie's question. There have been those who lets say take advantage of these angel auctions
We must also remember that there are resources that one can utilize as well.
I have posted many links on where to find help. It may not be the first link I post, it may be the twentieth, but there is help available.

I sat at this pc and prayed asking God to please open the heart/mouth of atleast one unbiased person to see this for what it really is. Thank God for answering prayers. Jackie never mentioned a name or person but look what it has turned into...I also pray that God will guard my heart from clouded judgement as it only leads to deeper hurt. I use this issue as a lesson and pray that whatever God has for me to learn from it I will....
That being said I also want to be clear that anyone who has a problem with Kristy and her familys blessing of a new baby needs help. May God bless them for being a vessel to bring another life into this world. Life is a blessing and one of Gods greatest gifts. I pray for the health and happiness of them and their baby...

I just wanted to know how people would feel about that particular thing happening on THIS board that's why I used the words RS, ANGEL and AUCTION.
I never said this was about Kristy...... SHE said SHE felt it was. Why? It was a general question, that's all that's it. Does everything really have to be about Kristy?
I posted to a topic not too long ago about Robin being pregnant, and clearly stated that even though we were not friends on a personal level (and everyone knew it) I was happy for her and wished her the best of luck. That's all I wish for Kristy as well. No we DON'T get a long.... she has her views on things and I have mine and that's what makes this such a great country....... WE ARE ALLOWED to be different.
I wish this hadn't turned into such a fiasco, I'm really not even sure WHY it did.

No one even THOUGHT this post was about anyone in particular until Kristy posted that she thought it was about her and then all heck broke loose. No one asked me IF the post was about her. NO ONE, not a single person. *shakes head*
As for starting the Angel Auctions......... The 1st one was for Betty Sutton to help her raise the $ she needed to put a deposit on a house. It went VERY well and she was able to rent her home and start turning around her life. I do remember receiveing a thank you note in the mail from her and believe she sent everyone a note, although it was so long ago I could be wrong about everyone receiving one. As for the vasectomy auction (since Kristy brought it up), no, I did NOT give to that one and that was my choice. Others did and that was their choice. I still have faith in RS Angel Auctions, I think they do a LOT of good and help people in true need and I hope the continue to do so.
What it comes down to is this............ I asked a question, got a few answers, and thank those who answered unbiasedly.
As for those who attacked me and cussed at me, thank you too.......... I'll take this experience and learn from it. Exactly WHAT I'll learn I don't know yet, but I know it'll amount to something.
