I know i have been mia for a few weeks...have had a bronchial issue that i have been having major issues with, and then Bills grandmother passed away. That is not what i need the prayers for, as i will get better, and she is in a much better place, having suffered...

I need em for my little guy...those of you that know me know our dogs are our kids....well little one seemed quite fine when i got home from work on friday, then proceeded to toss up an asst of goodies for me a couple of times...then some grass, then the lovely bile junk that dogs just seem to be awesome at producing. Talked to my vet, got a plan of action, which seemed to do the trick....sat he seemed a bit better...still did not want food, but did want to snuggle up on the bed, getting himself up and down. I went in for my normal 3 am shift and hubby called about 6 am to tell me he was getting sick again. He got sick again before i got home from work, and again after so my 16 yr old nephew and i went to the emergency vet as quick as we could.

Long story, he is there, i am here....xrays are inconclusive, but his heart beat was 222 beats per min, his hydration level is way off, and he is running a fever. The vet at the emergency service knows my vet, knows that i want to get him to him for any surgery....so unless absolutely necc no surgery there...but she did not think my dog could wait til i got him there tomorrow for hydration and the heart beat...she is hoping when she gets him hydrated his heart starts working so hard.

He looked so woeful when i left him, i had to carry him out to the car here....pray the little guy starts to feel better....Jodie

still no clue what set all this off, as i just got done digging thru the garbage from friday night(after 2 warm days of almost 90 weather...yum...) trying to see if i could figure the mystery item out. No clue what it was, but am hoping that it was nothing major...it did not look like anything when i cleaned up the first two tosses...
they say his fever and heart rate are coming down, and that he did go outside to potty...which is a plus...lets hope the reg vet can figure out what is going on....

THANKS FOR ALL THE EMAILS AND PRAYERS...YOU KNOW MY DOGS ARE MY BABIES...jodie 8|1|Jodie, I will say a prayer for your doggie. I hope he gets better soon. |Ranalt|ainebailey@gmail.com|21:06:52|08/08/2010|

where he still is...he was a bit better, fever was down, as was the heart rate...that did not last too long off the drip....made it from one vets to the other ok...as we were getting on the scale he got sick again....he looked more life like today, walked on his own.
xrays today showed the big gas loops were gone, which is a good sign, and the rectal check showed a sign of poop..also a good sign...have to go get him in a bit over an hour as they do not have someone to watch him all night. If he shows signs of improvement tomorrow he will not have to have surgery, but probably more drip/antibiotic combo at the vets. If not then exploratory surgery.

The problem with the xrays is that if he ate cloth or plastic(like bag material) then it will not show since the texture is the same. If it was something like a stick/rock it would have already shown....Keep your fingers crossed...considering sewing his mouth together, or taking all his teeth...LOL as i know no other way to stop the chew monster....so far he has eaten/chewed

"Women should not have children after 35. Thirty-five children are enough." - anonymous (Only 28 to GO!) 16|3|Oh my gosh, Jodie! He is quite the handful! LOL I can recommend something to try to get him to stop chewing on things, seriously, it works wonders! It's call Bitter Apple Spray....when he chews on something he's not supposed to, show him the item, then spray the bitter apple into his mouth...he will make a beeline for the water bowl. Scold him and tell him no firmly.....repeat this a few times when you find something he chewed on....after a few times, he'll get the idea. Harley was chewing up charger cords like crazy after we had him about 10 days, and this stopped him from chewing on anything he knows isnt his within a day! Also worked to get him to not pee in the house....this stuff is a great training tool :)|saint6811|waylan@comcast.net|16:43:50|08/09/2010|

If it's safe for our little 2-legged babies, you know it has to be safe for our little 4-legged babies. :)
When we got Toby (my little Chihuahua/Pekingese who passed away 3 yrs. ago) he was just a puppy & my son was just a little over a year old. In my son's toybox was an old, empty tube of Baby Orajel (bubblegum flavor, if I recall correctly). Didn't know it was even in there til I seen Toby carrying it around one day, chewing on it. There was evidently just enough Orajel still lining the inside of the tube & it numbed Toby's itchy, irritated gums. For some reason, it became Toby's favorite "chew toy" so I let him have the dumb thing. LOL But ya know, in all the 15 yrs. we were blessed to have Toby, he NEVER did chew on anything he wasn't supposed to, except that empty Orajel tube when he was a puppy. ;)
Puppies chew cuz they're teeth are still coming in so their gums are itchy & irritated. Chewing can continue til they're almost 2 yrs. old. If a dog continues to chew after that it's usually out of boredom or nervousness.
I'm sure wishing all the best for your little guy. :)
