I have a little 7 lb maltese/poodle that has something going on with his back end. He is running around with his tail between his legs, skittish, hunched back end. He IS eating, drinking water ok, is NOT vomiting or having diarreha. When I touched his butt area he squeeled and ran off crazy. I DO know he has back pain occasionally and at first thats what we thought it was, but usually he is not so skittish. He is acting really weird. I need to get him through the night and in the morning will call the vet.

Does anybody know what I can give him to make him more comfortable?

The little Chihuahua/Pekingese I used to have would get this once in awhile. It's more common in smaller dogs but is not unusual. It can be painful for them but they also feel shame cuz it makes them feel like they have poop stuck on their butt. There's an anal gland on each side of their rectum.
You can give him a bath w/warm water & massage his anal glands yourself while he's in the bathtub, to slowly ooze the infection out, but be prepared to gag as it smells really bad. Otherwise, the vet will massage or use a needle/syringe to get it out.
HTH. :)

2|2|Totally agree w/maraj... that bummy goo is stinky! I do know you can give dog's aspirin, but don't remember the formula. I know that my dog was 60 lbs and got one, but you have to be very careful it doesn't burn their tummy. |Sara_s_Mom|IClipCoupons@gmail.com|09:51:32|08/02/2010|

You should be able to safely give him about a 1/3 of an 81 mg. baby asprin, at least no more than a half of one, every 6 hrs. or so.
If your little one is like mine was, good luck trying to get him to eat it w/out spitting it out. LOL I'd hide the little piece of asprin either inside a small piece of cheese or a small wad of cooked hamburger, etc. Sometimes it worked & sometimes the smart fart would eat the cheese or hamburger no problem but managed to find, separate & spit out the piece of asprin. ;-p Then he got TOO smart & would run & hide behind the couch as soon as he heard me open/shut the baby asprin bottle! LOL It got so I had to go either go outside or go in the bathroom w/the asprin bottle, shut the door & turn the faucet on full blast so he didn't hear me open/shut that stupid bottle. LOLOL

Anal glade thing sounds reasonable, hope its as simple as that and they can fix him up.

After I posted, we noticed some blood coming out of his recal area. Not a lot of blood, but enough to notice. My dd and I stayed up with him all night and he finally calmed down at 4a. No blood this morning. Still drinking.

Thanks for the tip about this and the info on the baby asprin. I'm gonna write it down this time so I can remember.
