My daughter wants one of these for Christmas and I know absolutely nothing about the Kindle

Can anyone help me with what I am looking for and if they are worth it?

Thanks 1|1|Brainyblonde... Debbie has one|Kristy|mi3zons1@yahoo.com|22:36:35|07/30/2010|

I like the Ipad better because of the size, it's more like the size of a hardcover book vs a paperback size like the Kindle and the Sony Book. I know it's not much information but that's my opinion. HTH :)

3|1|I have nook - I chose it over Kindle... however...|Sara_s_Mom|IClipCoupons@gmail.com|13:28:07|07/31/2010|

You should be able to buy ebooks w/Amazon gcs that you pick up at places like Swag Bucks or surveys. They also have free ebooks - some of which aren't available at BN.com for nook users.

3G is nice - if you travel a lot. However, within the next month or so a wi-fi Kindle will be available (they are taking pre-orders) and you can get that for $140 bucks. However, if you are looking for Christmas, it might be worth waiting since Kindle just came out with their wifi one, which undercut nook's wifi only one, which when it launched caused Kindle to drop their price on their other model. Long story short - there's an ebook war going on and waiting could get you the best deal possible.

3G means wireless "almost" anywhere. I've been places my nook wouldn't connect :( Of course, with nook there's the chance to go to the B&M store and get special offers there just by showing your nook. Wifi only is good if you don't travel much and plan to use the device mostly at home. You can use your home's own wifi network if you have one and aren't hard wired into the wall for net access.

Kindle still has a qwerty typewriter on it - nook has a touch screen. You can play with nooks at BN (make sure you use a store locator to find one that has a nook set up) and I am thinking that Target sells Kindle? Definitely play with them before you commit.

Why did I pick nook over Kindle? The book lending option appealed to me. Plus, I also download some Google books that are free too. Hubby steals my nook all the time and I'm wanting to get him a Kindle, but he wants me to wait until later on in the fall to see if the prices drop any further.

Hope this helps!
