13 0|0|So MAD! Med. bill sent to collection agency|dragonmom|sueedelmann@yahoo.com|16:55:56|07/27/2010|

I am so mad! I have been paying every month on these huge medical bills I have ($6000 deductible and 25% copay for first $15,000, and so got double coz of everything being in December and January).

Today I got a call from a collection agency. A bill for $800 from the cancer center, that I last paid on June 25, had been turned over to them. WTF! I paid them $200 last month, that bill started at $1200 in January and I am doing the best I can. Each month I sit down with all the bills from all over the place and divide up what I have to each of them, but I have been making a payment every single month as much as I can! I can't believe they did this, this is going to screw up my credit rating, now. I was going to put some on my credit card but everybody told me no, that if you make any payment even a small one, there won't be a problem. Now I'm wondering if I shouldn't put all this on my cards and get rid of them. I don't need any more aggravation, having enough to cope with still doing chemo treatments. And when January rolls around, if I am still doing things (and my dr. says he definitely wants me on a maintenance program once we get this under control) I will have another $8500 in bills right off the bat. I just can't stand this.

1|1|That is horrible! $200 payments are nothing to sneeze at! DId you call the cancer treatment center who turned it over and ask them WHY they did that? I would be on that phone giving them an earful! I am so sorry Sue, that is just so wrong of them to do that. :(|saint6811|waylan@comcast.net|17:05:04|07/27/2010|

3|1|I went through this a year or so ago. It didn't matter how much I sent in. They wanted the whole $2.500 within 6 months or something like that. They said doctors bills are not like credit cards and other types of debts. Seems like a lot of actual hospitals are more willing to work with you.|RobinsCrazyWorld|robinmarie72@gmail.com|17:31:15|07/27/2010|

ask them how they can turn you over when you are making payments. I would also call your states dept of medical and ask if it was even legal to turn you over when you have been making payments...this sucks on top of everything you have going on... 11|2|Get some legal advise, you may qualify for SSd, go to legal aid, i would not charge this medical, without legal advice...Iris|BMOREGAL|bmoregal2000@aol.com|23:57:48|07/29/2010|

I also went through breast cancer treatment/surgery/radiation and the worry over the bills, etc. is actually worse than the treatment/surgery/radiation. One snippy "gal" on the phone suggested that I get a job so that I could pay my bills - having just gone through chemo, surgery and radiation!

I use to work for a Collection Agency about 11 years ago. I know things of changed.

But I do know that MOST "Medical Facilities" want the accounts to be PAID IN FULL within a year.

Technically, the bill is due in full at the time services are provided, any payment arrangement that the medical

provider allows you to set up is at its discretion. If you wish to prevent your account from going to collections,

then you will need to make the payments required by the creditor.

Believe me I know how it is - I am at collections myself because of my medical bills.

Best of Luck to you!!!

Teresa

Have a Great Day!

The charges are from January, first bill came in March, made payment every single month. It is just very depressing, in 23 years I have NEVER not paid a bill or been late more than a day, and now this has come and ruined my years of credit. Got another one, only owe $30 still and they said if not paid it would go to collections. Again, I have paid this down from $400 to a lousy $30 still due, and they are going to do that!

9|4|They don't waste anytime if they see a patteren that doesn't equal to the time patteren they want it paid in. I sent in payments as well and it was sent in within months.|RobinsCrazyWorld|robinmarie72@gmail.com|11:47:19|07/29/2010|

8|1|that is so dumb. If you've been paying on it regularly, hiring a collection agency isn't going to get it paid any faster...and they have to pay the collection agency for collecting money they were already getting from you|suezz|clearys@comcast.net|10:15:59|07/29/2010|

what a shame that this bill was turned over to collections. i don't know your whole story but my guess is if there was cancer treatment there was loss of work time (wages) too! when your body is suppose to be healing you certainly don't need to be dealing with this. i think cancer centers should assign a "bill person" kind of like a social worker to run interference in situations like this so that you aren't trying to deal with a life threatening illness and the pettiness of this small bill at the same time! WOW ~ touched a sore spot there ... i'll get down off my soap box now ... 13|3| buying a low income house and this popped up, and now have to do bankruptcy instead|glennie58|glenn_scott@alumni.ksg.harvard.edu|18:36:38|08/02/2010|
