If you are keeping up with the articles on extended benefits for unemployment please go to the site below and "Take Action". Most people want to work and not be on unemployment. Very difficult to survive on that money. In the state of NY top benefits is $405. Try living on Long Island with that kind of money. Then in April you have to claim it as income!!! We have canceled our daily newspaper and only get it on Sunday since they raised the price. We got rid of our cable box and only have basic cable. Not much more I can part with.

Most people want to work and not
>be on unemployment.

DD is a corporate recruiter and applicants tell her all the time "why should I work when I can have the summer off and collect unemployment?"

2|2|I've heard that more than I've heard people wanting a job....but I live in a small town (really small!), so my exposure to unemployed persons is limited....however, I do know three people personally who PURPOSELY got fired in May or early June just so they could have the summer off and collect. It's disheartening to say the least :(|saint6811|waylan@comcast.net|09:16:13|07/22/2010|

Yes, I know it is hard, but extending the benefits does not encourage those people to go look for work, until the benefits run out. Does not help the economy, and many people end up in trouble later because they didn't put away the taxes they will owe on it.

I disagree. Millions of people lost their jobs through no fault of their own. These are not ordinary times. The jobs are just not there anymore. Millions of jobs were offshored and not coming back. The extension money goes right back into the economy immediately. What would you have these people do that can't find jobs? 5|5|They NEED to EXTEND BENEFITS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!|cashcoll|cashcoll@yahoo.com|23:29:15|07/22/2010|

I totally AGREE with what "BISH" said in the above statement. These are not ordinary times.

My brother would LOVE to go to work and he got laid off almost 1 year ago & still can't find a job here. He has no DEBT, just your basic utilities & car payment.
He doesn't even have a house payment and he has cut just about everything off. He also have to pay for his HEALTH INSURANCE. If he can't pay is HEALTH INSURANCE, he would have no where to go. He has to have it, due to some health issues.

I do think some people have taken advantage of it but there are MILLIONS of people who NEED the funds.

Have a Great Day!

Totally agree with Theresa on this. There are NO jobs to be had here.

I just did a job today, that the people were having to shut their water off when they were done using it. They had to save for over
a year, just for us to do the work.

GIVE THEM THE EXTENTION FOR SURE!!!

My work has been totally affected due to the auto industry!!! When people get laid off , it effects not only the economy but everyone
down the line, even to the smaller companies which are the back bone to the larger ones. :)

I paid unemployment benefits in for years, and never drew it (unemployment) so YES, there are funds available for extentions. They just
want to spend the extra funds somewhere else.

It`s a ME, ME, world we live in. Not only when you work for someone , for every dollar you earn, your employers has to match the dollar
amount to pay into employment benefits, so that is why more & more companies are having to shut down, lay off etc. Sad thing is, it
does not look to me as it is going to get better any time soon.

Just my imput on this post.

~Judy in MI~ P.S. I have cut way back, just the basic living expenses. Had my land line shut off, so NO PHONE, NO cable, just
regular TV (which really sucks) But so far, I still have my internet. :))))) 7|1|How long should the US government...|inthesticks|inthesticks@windstream.net|01:13:40|07/23/2010|

keep extending unemployment benefits? Requesting that the federal government pick up the tab for unemployed people can only continue for so long. Where is the money going to come from? Probably the taxpayer. Why should the taxpayer continue to support the unemployed for extended amounts of time? The truth is that solutions to the problem are going to require tough periods of readjustment of people's way of living. Moving back in with the parents; downsizing from a 3-bedroom house on 2 acres of land to a 1 or 2 bedroom home in a neighborhood with lower home prices. Move to another city or state where there may be more work options; both spouses may have to work; encourage the kids to get after-school or summer jobs. People will have to learn that any job is better than no job at all. Flipping burgers, delivering pizza, working as a temp. worker, cashier in a gas station...whatever it takes. At least with low-paying service jobs comes health insurance and a few benefits; far more benefits than simply drawing unemployment for a year or more.

I feel sorry for the millions of folks out of work. It is a serious sign of continued economic recession. But jobs are out there, especially closer to larger cities or in other areas of the country. 8|2|Exactly! Well stated and very true.|zombietoo|littlejadensmom@juno.com|03:18:13|07/23/2010|

13|2|Well said, Cary! There are jobs out there, and while they may not be in the usual field someone is accustomed to working in, a job is a job. My 16 yr old twin sons both have jobs, work 30-35 hours a week, and we live in a VERY small, rural area. |saint6811|waylan@comcast.net|17:28:40|07/23/2010|

Remember your manners: when god answers your prayers----- say thank you. 11|1|Perhaps some wouldnt be so jaded if the process required people to actually LOOK for a job....those that I personally know who have been collecting for months, that are qualified to work in healthcare, dont have to leave their homes and still collect....they dont have to go put in applications, or even go down to the unemployment office to 'check in' or get leads on jobs. All they are doing is signing in on the site, checking a box that says "no changes to income or worked hours",and they get the next check. I would be more open to extending benefits, IF the system made people at least TRY to find a job, and provided networks/leads/etc for employment like they USED to do. There are some jobs out there, some places are worse than others, so each person's perspective will be relavent to THEIR own experiences.|saint6811|waylan@comcast.net|09:17:02|07/23/2010|
