Apparently people buy these lots and go to Office Max/staples etc and trade them in. Is this OK to do? Anybody here do it? Also, why doesn't the sellers do it themselves? Can you get in trouble for doing it?

I know of someone that did this once. He bought a lot on ebay cheaply. Apparently, there are places that will pay cash for specific Mfr cartridges that have not been refilled. He boxed those up and sent them in - received a check for about $300. The rest have been turned into Staples and Office Depot as limits allow. Staples now only pays $2, and Office Depot ties your reward on how much you spend. (I don't really understand how that works.) It worked well for him, but he has said that he hasn't found as good a deal for the cartridges on ebay since.

As to why the seller wouldn't do this, maybe they don't have Office Depot and Staples nearby??

and there are only certain types they accept....and there are other "rules".

With OfficeMax you have to spend the same amount or more than what you turn in and then they will issue your certificate in the next "cycle".

At Staples it's been reduced from $3 to $2 as of July 1, 2010

I talked to the manager at all 3 stores here last week when I was out working and they said they all have these new restrictions and lesser rewards because of people buying large qtys and turning them in for credit and basically not really "buying" anything from the store. They all said they get NOTHING for recycling they just do it to help save the planet + trying to build customer loyalty.
