Hubby and I took some papers to our recycling bin late one night. When we opened it, we discovered that all the unsold newspapers from the local paper boxes - complete with coupon inserts - were being put here. We considered, but decided against, removing the coupons and leaving the papers. Also, someone must have had a humdinger of a party as there were dozens of beer boxes scattered outside the bins. We were tempted as well to cut the upc codes from the boxes, but felt it might be wrong to do so. I think the glossy inserts like coupons are printed on are discarded to the trash anyway. Our bins are way out in the country and emptied rarely. They are always overfilled with stuff spilled on the ground which usually ends up wet or blown up and down the roadsides. On this paticular night, there were bags and bags containing pop tart boxes, cereal boxes and many boxes that had btfe on them.
I might just have to keep a box cutter in my glove box...

Unless there is a sign posted stating you can not go through the garbage, it is fair game. Another jackpot spot is the trash outside the grocery store. We have a free gallon of milk for every 6 you purchase promotion going on. It is amazing to me, how many people throw these free Milk coupons in the garbage. people were leaving old sofas,things like that they got them on cameras and fined them something like $200.00 not sure what they would do if you took something,I'd check first it would be very embarrassing to me to have them call me and aks what the heck I was doing lol Linda
