It is scary when you hear all of the media talk about 2012 and yes, I do think we as a planet are self destructing quicker than we realize. Do I think we need to start stockpiling food or buy army rations? No. I think that will bring more stress and anxiety on you and not the peace of mind that you think it may. While it is always good to be prepared, you also need to keep a peaceful state of mind. Do the little things you can do to protect our planet, help others, and send good energy out into the universe. I do think only God knows when he will decide to end this world, and while we are here, we neeed to be at peace and enjoy it. Yes there are many many sad things in the world right now and a great deal of destruction...the news makes me cry fairly often. But I have to look at all of the beauty in this world and see that there are so many things to enjoy and be thankful for. It is not always easy to think this way, but I try to do it!!! Put your mind at ease and put peace in your heart, and let stockpiling canned goods not be a priority right now. Life is too short. :) 3|1|I agree...|inthesticks|inthesticks@windstream.net|03:15:13|07/09/2010|

with you. Living conditions around the world are getting worse...from global warming and the rising seas, to water and air pollution from factories, evironmental disasters on an unparalleled scale are beginning to occur (the BP blowout is the current prime example). People in most Western nations are seeing a dramatic increase in the number of elderly people. These nations have reached "zero population growth", and they were not even trying. By the year 2050, many of these Western nations (like Norway, Germany, Denmark, France, etc.) will have a population that is too old to continue working. What's going to happen when there is nobody capable of working to maintain vital services to the population of these nations?

The Gulf disaster is horrible. An entire ecosystem has been destroyed. I think it it too late to rescue the region from the oil. This oil kills the grasses in the barrier islands and marshes. Wind and water then cover the wetlands and marshes. The food supply has been severed in the Gulf. There were reports today of boats going out to gathere mussels, only to return to port and find them all dead from oil contamination. Hundreds and hundreds of mussels, just gone. The fish that eat these mussels are now missing a food source. Can they survive?

Here in the United States, our nation is "moving on". Those who have read Stephen King's "The Gunslinger" series will know what I'm talking about. The US global dominance is waning, much like what happened to the British Empire. Political issues are tearing the nation apart. The Arizona immigration law that is to take effect on July 29 is but the beginning of the changes that will occur here, as the American people become more and more polarized over immigration issues and more.

I think it is still a good idea to stockpile some food items. Canned meats (like Spam, Danish hams, etc.), bagged rice and flour, canned fruits/veggies; and items such as batteries, silver or gold (to trade with), weapons for self-defense and hunting (along with ammo).....all these things can be purchased a little at a time. The food items will be good for years. 4|1|me and my mom already stockpile and keep it up with using sales and coupons(m)|lydzkydz|wyldkydz@embarqmail.com|16:01:35|07/09/2010|
