My mom is scheduled to have a biopsy today on the carotid artery in her neck, to either confirm or refute a condition called arteritis (NOT arthritis). It's a serious condition that if undiagnosed & untreated can cause a stroke or vision loss. Fortunately, it's treatable w/Prednisone if detected early but please pray that she doesn't have this condition & that the occasional blurry vision she's already been having is merely a "floater".
Also, please pray for the family of my 1st cousin who had been dead for 2-3 days before she was found yesterday. She was only 51 yrs. old & basically drank herself to death from alcoholism.

My mom had the biopsy done but we won't find out the results til either Mon. or Tues., so please keep those prayers coming that she doesn't have the Arteritis.
The incision is only about an inch long & right below her temple (thus the term Temporal Artery Biopsy. I mistakenly thought it was to be in her neck). The dr. had to shave some hair out of the way, then applied iodine & numbed the area w/a local anesthetic. He took a very small piece of tissue, about the size of a pin head. My mom said that except for a little sting from the numbing stuff, she didn't feel anything. She's to keep the bandage on for 24-48 hrs. & can't wash her hair til Sat. She goes back in a week to have the stitches removed.
My cousin's (Joie) family is holding up as well as can be expected, given the circumstances. I'm sad to say that Joie has had a chronic alcohol problem for several yrs. She'd been in/out of ER, detox, AA, out-patient alcohol treatment facilities, court, jail & half-way houses more times than anyone can count. Believe it or not, she was able to obtain alcohol even while in jail. :( Granted, she made the choice to drink initially on her own many yrs. ago but then the alcohol took over & consumed every tissue in her body, slowly destroying her body, mind & organs. She wanted help & didn't want to die but couldn't do it by herself. Even tho her mind knew she wanted to quit, her body continued to crave the alcohol. She should've been committed to IN-patient treatment a long time ago but fell thru the cracks of the system as just another drunk whose money seemed to be more important than actually helping her get/stay sober. The last couple of yrs. she was trying to "maintenance" drink - just enough to keep from getting too sick from w/drawals but not enough to make her too sick from alcohol poisoning when her organs couldn't handle as much anymore. She'd been in detox again just last week, but they always let her go after just 72 hrs. That's all the law allowed them to keep her for. The Med. Examiner had a difficult time due to the extent of decomposition but determined that she'd likely passed away on Sun. sometime.... That & it being so senseless & unnecessary is what is so hard on her family.
But Joie isn't having to fight those demons anymore; she's finally at peace.

The past few days have been a whirlwind of not so good things so I apologize for not posting my sincere thanks & appreciation sooner.
We haven't yet received word on my mom's biopsy so the waiting is driving us both crazy, worrying & wondering. I'm hoping no news is good news cuz if she does have Arteritis, it is very important that treatment begin asap.
On top of the news last Weds. of my cousin's sad passing, we received word Fri. that my brother in law's dad also passed away early that morning. He had cancer which had recently spread to his bones but he was still in good spirits & optimistic. There was a problem w/a valve in his heart tho so drs. wanted to do surgery to correct that as they felt it would buy him some more time despite the cancer. He had the surgery Thurs. morning. Right after the surgery, however, he had a stroke that left him paralyzed on one side & in need of life support so he was placed on that w/everyone hoping his daughter & sil would get here from MD before he passed. Unfortunately, it wasn't able to sustain him & he passed away early Fri. morning. He was a dear, sweet man & perhaps God thought it best to take him Home before the cancer made him suffer anymore than what he'd already endured.
Early Sat. morning, my son called me as his car had stalled while on his way to work. At 1st, both the mechanic & I thought it might be the alternator that went kaput but the mechanic thinks now that the engine may have locked up. :( So.... I've had to help him out getting to/from work, etc. He'd just moved into an apt. w/a friend 2 wks. ago & had been commuting approx. 35 mi. to/from work & now has had to stay here off & on. He is really bummed.
Sun. was the funeral for my cousin. It was a rough day to get thru & the heat/humidity just made it seem worse to get thru. The church had NO a/c. When I got back home, I found out that one of my close friends' mom had also passed away on Friday.
This morning was the funeral for my brother in law's dad & tomorrow is the funeral for my friend's mom.
So.... things have just been a bit overwhelming here lately.
Please keep my cousin's, my brother in law's & my friend's families in your prayers. I would also greatly appreciate it if you could add my son to the prayer list, that things go better for him & so his car will be fixed asap.

My mom got the stitches out from the biopsy this morning & we got the results of the biopsy.
NEGATIVE!! She does NOT have Arteritis!! Just age-related floaters that are basically harmless. My mom & I are SO relieved & I'm oh, SO VERY grateful that I'm afraid I got a little emotional & blubbered like a big baby. LOL After a week of sad news, bad news, worrying & waiting, there's finally some GOOD news!! :) :)
Thank you all SOOOOOO VERY, VERY much for all your words of encouragement, positive thoughts & letting me whine, & most of all, for your WONDERFUL prayers! They work!!!
