The going rate for baby formula checks is outragous IF you are actually needing to buy the product!
Would anyone be willing to sign up for some in a few months for me? I am going to try and breast feed, but in case I can't, I want to be ready to get formula. Also we found out good friends are adopting and they should be able to use whatever we don't. No idea when they will be receiving a child. We are all hoping they will have a few months heads up... But it could be only a few weeks notice... So exciting!! Please let me know if you would be willing to do this. They will be mailed to your home and you will have to then mail them to me. I can cover postage and a small handling fee if wanted. LMK!

1|1|Robin, havent you signed up with WIC yet? You get vouchers for foods for yourself while preggo, and then you will get vouchers for formula for the baby if you would decide to go that route...if you breastfeed only, you will still get vouchers for foods for yourself :) WIC saved my butt when I had the boys and had to feed them formula!!|saint6811|waylan@comcast.net|13:13:38|05/24/2010|

Is that the income limits are higher so you might qualify even if you aren't sure.
They are really a super program. You'll be tapped into free well baby checks and they will also monitor your iron levels and watch for anemia. They offer free breast pumps too, so you could still breastfeed and pump for times you need a few hours away.

Also once you have a pediatrician, he/she will be a great resource for free formula and formula samples if you need them. Many of the hospitals no longer give formula samples, but your OB is likely to have the free bag of gifts (the diaper bag or backpack or whatever they give away now... I am out of that loop thank goodness, LOL!) , so ask them at one of your appointments if they do that or if they don't then if you can get that at the hospital you are using.

Oh and you can post a want ad on freecycle too-- I see formula on ours fairly often.
HTH a little...

Many of the nice people on this site will also have a comment...but there are SO MANY varieties of formulas now, that it is almost scarey...some babies need the Soy, some need the Enfamil special formula, some need the Good Start, some need the iron, some shouldn't have the iron...ARRRGHHHHH!

We stocked up on Similac for one of our church families...baby came along...and little tummy wouldn't tolerate the kind we had stocked up ...(of course, go figure! ) but we were able to pass it to the center here that works with new moms and babies... Unfortunately, didn't help the situation with the stock up for the original family...and that little one's requirements cost $29 a can (powder)...

Of course we found it for them...but until your little one appears and let's you know VERY QUICKLY which one will keep them thriving other than nursing...ya kinda want to be cautious on the stock up.

I know, I'm just a Grannie.... 8|2|Oh, I didnt lan on stocking up on formula.... Just wanted to have good couons to work with when the time comes. I know all roo well about those little tummies... I have twin brothers.. One couldn't deal with reg formula and had to have soy and the other couldn't deal with soy. lol|RobinsCrazyWorld|robinmarie72@gmail.com|18:01:05|05/24/2010|

Baby formula is regulated by the FDA. Granted, some have extra dha or whatever in it, but generally, they all meet minimum standards.

Robin, you could try this site: http://babyformulaquiz.com/ They get you coupon(s) to local stores near to you. Therefore, if you have anyone else sign up, bear that in mind. Store formula costs less than brand name. PBM actually won a suit against a major baby formula company for claiming theirs was superior.
