As most of you know my husband had a stroke in early March and has been in rehab unil a couple of weeks ago. We are self-employed and have no health insurance. We are waiting to see if we qualify for Medicaid, but I was told today that it could still be as much as 3 to 4 weeks before it is decided. All of my husband's medicines run out Friday. He has about 10 medicines to take since the stroke. We have been told to just pay out of pocket. My husband wants to just not take any of them since we can not afford that much medicine. Does anyone know of any current pharmacy coupons? Or any way to save on the cost of the prescriptions? We do not have another doctor's appointment until the end of the month, which will be too late to not run out of the medicine. Any ideas at all? I am at a loss as to what to do. My husband is sure that they will only cost about $l00, but the Plavix is $180 a month and one of the others is Lipitor. I am pretty sure all of it will cost in the range of $600 to $1000 for the monthly refills. Thanks for helping me, teresa 1|1|Teresa...|sunriver|sunriver@gmail.com|19:10:09|05/17/2010|

Do you have Costco near you? You don't have to be a member to use the pharmacy, but if you are you can get additional savings that way. Even the non-member pricing winds up being less than other places and I have found the Costco pharmacists here to be knowledgeable about current coupon/rebate offers for meds. Lisa will hopefully chime in as I know she has some great lists of info on meds. I'm sorry you are going through that, but please do not let him stop meds unless he talks to his doctors. Maybe they can help with product samples for a month until the insurance kicks in? There has to be something!

We do not have a Costco anywhere near us. I printed off the free 30 day supply of Lipitor form that you gave the link to. I am going to ask the doctor tomorrow if she will write the prescription for us, so we can see if we can get the 30 days free. I am going to write all the medicines down and ask about the cost for them tomorrow. Maybe some of them will be on the lower end of the scale. It is just so hard to keep going when your husband is unable to work. I just did not know where to turn on help for the medicine. I called everywhere I knew of today, but they all said that they could do nothing. At least with your help, I have a bit of a chance to get them. I am so afraid that we will be refused for Medicaid, but I will just have to take it one day at a time. Thank you for your help. teresa 4|2|this wont help u right now.......but you could apply thru PPA medicine program.......and if u qualify.......|couponsnsamples|cpsnsamples@aol.com|21:10:01|05/17/2010|

they will send it thru the mail for free or low cost........u have to remember to call in .......on my dads eye medication....he gets a 3 month supply...

and then right before it runs out i call and they resend.......some comes directly to him.......some comes to dr office and we have to pick it up......

but it has been a blessing to my dad........he uses....5 different eye drops.....and most run over $100 each and one is like $160

it takes a bit to start......but..its well worth the trouble 5|2|Lisa (Ranalt) hope you see this?|sunriver|sunriver@gmail.com|22:16:52|05/17/2010|

7|1|Teresa, there has been some great advice already, but if you email me your hubby's age and where you live as well as the meds your DH is on, I will search some more for you. Also, Costco has MAIL ORDER :) Generics are another great idea, so much cheaper and some as low as $4 for a month or $9 for 3 months.|Ranalt|ainebailey@gmail.com|12:03:09|05/18/2010|

Many doctor's offices no longer have samples since the economy has tanked. The Reps just aren't giving them out any more.
Many of the drug makers have assistance programs that can also help.
Help is out there.

I clicked on the link that was so kindly provided and printed off the card for the free Lipitor 30 day supply. I was sure that they would just laugh at me at the pharmacy about it, but I took a chance and asked the doctor to write another prescription for it. The doctor's office told me that they had no samples of anything that my husband needs. But when I took it all over to Walgreens they filled it for free. I never thought it would work, but it did. I am in debt to all of you forever, for giving me a little hope. It has been a very dark time for us and it was wonderful to see a little ray of sunshine with all your ideas. I can not thank you enough. I have a Kmart pharmacy coupon, and I am going to try and use it at CVS on Thursday. I have 6 more prescriptions to refill. So, keep your fingers crossed for me, teresa 10|2|Also RXOutreach has cheap meds, in generic form most are $30-$45 for 3 month supply hth|kandywolf|kandywolf@gmail.com|15:49:39|05/18/2010|

they have funding for emergencies for folks like us and you need to see them while you are still there, but they hide out or at least that is our experience lol.

Also CVS has health cards at their pharmacy registers that work real well, I got antibiotics for $11 instead of $60 one time with a card that they keep by the registers... can you say I must look poor? LOL they just offered it to me... 14|1|Also CHECK prices at MULTIPLE pharmacies|Abbicca|Abbicca@insightbb.com|15:01:27|05/19/2010|

A friend filled a prescription at CVS and was charged over $1000 for it (yeah---a 1 month supply).

After choking but paying it, she made some calls and was really miffed at the numbers she was told. Most other pharmacies were cheaper---- and one by about $400-$500. She went back into CVS and threw a fit but there was nothing they could or would do. But you better believe that the other 2 refills her kid needed did NOT get refilled there.

It DOES pay to call around...be sure to have the medicine strength and dosage handy.

Best of luck! 15|1|Teresa, cye. I sent you the prices for the drugs at Costco where you CAN order from online. The savings for using Generics were amazing :) I am still working on finding more help. |Ranalt|ainebailey@gmail.com|22:29:05|05/19/2010|

I only have until tomorrow to refill the prescriptions. One of them was for preventing pnuemonia when he was unable to swallow. I asked today and I was told that he passed his swallow test and would more than likely be taken off that pill on Tuesday when we meet with the doctor. One prescription still has quite a few left, so I am waiting on it. I took all of them to Walmart and was told that 3 of them would be about $150. They would not match my Kmart coupon for a $l0 card when you filled a prescription. They told me that they get burned matching prescription coupons. I took the fourth one to Kmart. Walmart had told me that that medicine would be $88. I filled it at Kmart for $38 and got a $l0 Kmart card. After I picked up my husband from therapy, we went back to Walart to pick up the medicine. While in line, I told my husband that I was not sure that I even had enough money. When I got up there, she told me my total was $28!!!!!!!! Not $150!! When I went to Walmart last month to fill my husband's Plavix medication, I gave them the pharmacy coupon that I had printed off of coupons.com a month or two before. The local Walmart told me that she tried to run it,but that Walmart's prices were so cheap, there could be no discount on it. She must have entered it into my husband's file and they used it today. I could not believe the difference it made. Now I am waiting to hear about the Plavix before tomorrow when it runs out. We are trying to get it free from the manufacturer through the clinic we went to. If it does not come by tomorrow, I will just have to go ahead and get that refilled. I am just so worn out from trying to figure out ways to get what we need with what we can spend. My husband told me today that when anyone aks how I am doing when he is in therapy, he tells them that I am doing ok. He could not figure out why that made me mad and why I told him that I will never be ok again. He really has no clue. 18|2|Teresa...|sunriver|sunriver@gmail.com|16:59:14|05/20/2010|

It has to be so stressful on you, I am so sorry! I'm glad you were able to get all of that relatively cheaply at least. Wasn't that great, $28 a Wal Mart instead of $150, wow!

I really do not ever get a minute off except when my husband is in therapy at the hospital. It is hard to explain to someone that truthfully my life is over. Maybe it won't be forever, that realy is the only hope that I have right now. Right now every ounce of my being is focused on helping my husband and my family to survive. My new motto now is " it does not matter, and I matter even less." Polyanna has left the building. 19|1|Have you tried..see inside|tiffaniem|tiffanie.moore@att.net|17:21:25|05/20/2010|
