Prayers and Poems
Thank you for the world so sweet,
Thank you for the food we eat,
Thank you for the birds that sing,
Thank you, God, for everything!
Lord teach a little child to pray,
And then accept my prayer,
Thou hearest all the words I say
For Thou art everywhere.
God be in my head,
And in my understanding:
God be in my eyes,
And in my looking;
God be in my mouth,
And in my speaking;
God be in my heart,
And in my thinking;
God be at my end,
And at my departing.
All things bright and beautiful,
All creatures great and small,
All things wise and wonderful,
The Lord God made them all.
Each little flower that opens,
Each littkle bird that sings,
He made their glowing colors,
He made their tiny wings.
The tall trees in the greenwood,
The meadows where we play,
The rushes by the water,
We gather every day.
He gave us eyes to see them,
And lips that we might tell,
How great is God Almighty,
Who has made all things well!
Jesus, friend of little children,
Be a friend to me;
Take my hand and ever keep me,
Close to thee.
Teach me how to grow in goodness,
Daily as I grow;
Thou hast been a child, and surely
Thou doest know.
Never leave me, nor forsake me;
Ever be my friend;
For I need thee, from life's dawning
To it's end.
