They found two spots on my lungs,I had surgery two weeks ago (bronosocopy and medianoschophy.those could be spelled wrong.Anyways it was negative for cancer but he said he found another spot near my airways he can not get to and needs to do a thoracotomy to get to it.I got my paper today for my surgery and it reads...

right thoracotomy lung resection

Ok now I am not smart on all this stuff but all i can find on the internet is that it means removal of part of your lung. But my dr never said he was doing that he said just to look at the other spot.

my question for anyone that can please help(I am calling doc tomorrow just worrying me right now)

Is that what it means?Removal of part of your lung?

Thanks to anyone who can help

Cheryl 1|1|Cheryl, it would be best to call your doctor, and have him clarify. (M)|mindylou86|mindylou86@gmail.com|21:03:09|05/03/2010|

Maybe right down all the questions you have so you don't forget anything once you have him on the phone. Don't let him off the phone until all of your questions are answered to your satisfaction. Please don't feel nervous talking to him. It is your right to have a full understanding of everything your doctor says and/or is going to do.

Thoracotomy is an incision into the pleural space of the chest. It is performed by a surgeon, and, rarely, by emergency physicians, to gain access to the thoracic organs, most commonly the heart, the lungs, the esophagus or thoracic aorta, or for access to the anterior spine such as is necessary for access to tumors in the spine.

A lung resection is a surgical procedure in which all or part of a lung is removed.

Thank you for the reply ,I am calling tomorrow and asking all I can.Problem is I have to talk to his nurse that works with him.But she usually answers all the questions I have.

Just upset me that it meant removal of part or all of the lung and I was never told about it.He never said he was even doing that.

Thank you again for helping me
