20 0|0|Anyone else watch any of the Hoarding shows? (M)|RobinsCrazyWorld|robinmarie72@gmail.com|05:13:05|04/30/2010|

I watch these on demand when I can't sleep... 3 episodes tonight...
My home is no way at all like the ones on the tv. I keep everything pretty neat, tidy, and i hate clutter...
But I swear every time I watch one of these shows I clean and go through things the next day like crazy. LoL

but i have to get up at 4:30a.m for work so i usually dont watch them cause they come on to late for me. I always tell my son he should be on there because he doesnt like to throw away anything and he is 15 but he is no where near as bad as these people are on these shows.. 2|2|its hard to believe people live like that but know people who do|LindaOh|Martinl3@roadrunner.com|11:17:15|04/30/2010|

I find its best not to go into houses like that, I feel dirty for days lol also want to clean and throw away stuff.Linda 3|1|I love those shows, but I am the opposite of you Robin..|latdp|the_cool98@yahoo.com|23:38:24|04/30/2010|

I sit and watch them and think that I have a long way to go until my house gets that bad so I continue being a couch potatoe. I have noticed that the Hoarder that is on A&E have had some really gross ones lately, and the Hoarders Buried Alive on TLC is a bit different but none have been as gross as the others, YET!

Have a good one :)

LOL!!! 5|2|omg! That episode with all the dead cats was gross!! My home is noooooo where even slightly near these homes. I have a family of pack rats so I am very cautious of this lifestyle.|RobinsCrazyWorld|robinmarie72@gmail.com|20:41:27|05/01/2010|

I am a packrat, and I often wonder if my house could ever become so cluttered. I'm not an animal hoarder, so I wouldn't have to worry about that issue. However, I do collect stuff, arguably worthless stuff. I have empty boxes of all sizes; I have dozens of metal tins like the ones cookies come in or other food stuffs; I have several plastic grocery bags full of empty prescription medicine bottles that I know will be useful one day. I buy new items for the home and then store them away without using them. 7|2|sounds like you might be a hoarder :(|KellyJef|burke3536@yahoo.com|12:35:05|05/02/2010|

Since you recognize the symptoms, don't you think it would be a good idea to get help? You said "I often wonder if my house could ever become so cluttered" :(

You think I might be a hoarder? --LMAO-- I think not. I'm nothing like the folks shown on t.v. Why would I need help, when I've got armchair psychologists like yourself to advise me? This is not the Oprah show, and I'm not needing any help, but thank you for your concern.

You said that you "OFTEN WONDER IF MY HOUSE COULD EVER BECOME SO CLUTTERED". Most people would never "wonder" about that so my comment was relevant.

she has the smallest bedroom, has a guinea pig,hamster,2 birds, and a fish.
the room is unreal. I have talked and talked. She throws stuff away and
goes right back to the dollar store and buys more. She has been in therapy
for 3 yrs for it, along w/ depression etc. It really gets to me 11|5|I would actually think that most couponers might have a shade of that in them...|sunriver|lithiasalt@cheerful.com|17:40:10|05/03/2010|

But we keep it in check by giving our stockpiles away before they take over.

We are all just not "most people" and I took Cary's comments as he was just joking around about clutter (which I assumed was from couponing!)

:0) 12|6|thank-goodness we get rid of our stockpile, can you imagine what our houses would like like if we hordered everything?|HONEY11|HONEY1@AMERITECH.NET|18:55:24|05/03/2010|

thank-goodness I have a big storage shed in the basement to store a lot of the stuff I am starting to stockpile, I cannot imagine it all up in my apartment...would look really cluttered!!
* My bf is a hoarder he collects everything! He rents a storage shed to keep all his stuff in, it is filled to the ceiling with boxes, I think him growing up poor and in a 3rd world country not having things made him the way he is, he keeps everything. I don't say anything to him and I don't judge him, there are reasons behind why people hoard. I stockpile food and stuff and he doesn't get on me about that, if you've ever gone hungry or been poor you have this fear of going without things at least that is my reasoning for me and bf why we are the way we are.

13|7|I agree with you a 100% Linda. My grandmom grew up in the depression era and you threw nothing away. She kept everything because you never knew when you or a family member could use something.|bikermomofboys|allibaker@comcast.net|19:21:42|05/03/2010|

Thank you
please leave feedback at http://www.refundsweepers.com/dcforum/feedback/967.html 14|8|thank-you! and yes that is exactly how bf thinks, he saves things he might need later or for his family or friends and his hoarding has helped people out.|HONEY11|HONEY1@AMERITECH.NET|19:38:01|05/03/2010|

In his country people do not throw usable items away, nothing goes in the landfill it is passed on and given away to others. He went to a garage sale once and they were putting baby stuff by the garbage cans he asked if he could have the stuff a bassinet, car seat, and baby bath tub they gave it all to him for free. He stored it for 2 yrs when our niece was pregnant she needed stuff and couldn't afford to buy it he went to his storage and got out all the baby stuff and gave it to her, it sure helped her out!

I think it is probably hard for people to really get it unless they have really had to go without, but anyone who has had to walk into a food bank and ask for help or to any social service agency probably understands. It is almost like insurance so that things can't get that bad again if that makes any sense. 19|8|yes, exactly my thoughts Vanessa.|HONEY11|HONEY1@AMERITECH.NET|21:27:50|05/03/2010|

When bf was injured at work a couple of years ago, and the company took their time giving him his checks, sometimes had to wait up to 3 wks for a pay check, we would have never made it had we not stockpiled things. We were so grateful that we had a back up of supplies to help us make it through that 1 1/2 we really struggled. Our pride we didn't want to go to a food bank, and we didn't need to thanks to stockpiling.

there may be shades of "packrat" or "hoarding" in many of us couponers. But there is a difference between being a packrat and being a hoarder. I also believe that there is nothing wrong, necessarily, in being a hoarder...if it doesn't become a health or safety issue for the hoarder and/or anyone else. Having a house full of trash or multitudes of indoor animals, unsteady stacks of items piled up, etc. -- these things should be of concern to hoarders as it puts their own safety in question.

I agree with Linda as well about growing up poor. Growing up destitute as a child tends to make that person hang on to the items they gather as adults...and I can understand that. 16|2|HAD 3 NEIGHBORS LIKE THAT WHEN WE LIVED ON LONG ISLAND.....WAS AWFUL........|JOYHAPPYONE|DAIDOLA5@AOL.COM|20:10:32|05/03/2010|

"Dear God, this year please send clothes for all those poor ladies in Daddy's computer,
Amen." 18|1|what I don't get is why they don't throw out the actual garbage (M) (don't read this if you are easily grossed-out)|mindylou86|mindylou86@gmail.com|20:54:18|05/03/2010|

I understand having (for example) way too many clothes, Legos, magazines, books... and even having, say, piles of coupons that need to be sorted and/or UPCs...BUT, what I don't get is when they don't throw out the actual garbage (things that are unsanitary and/or have absolutely NO use) and they just let it stack/pile up, almost to the ceiling in some cases. Example, the one lady had USED Depends piled up in her bathroom!!!! THAT I just don't understand.
M 20|2|when it gets to unhealthy or safe I agree they need help. But there is some underlining issue, it could be a person suffering depression, or something|HONEY11|HONEY1@AMERITECH.NET|21:37:44|05/03/2010|

mentally going on that made them this way and maybe for some a laziness, and they just got use to living that way and it has become normal to them.
