you are mainly paying for the packaging and the coordination of the items inside.....quality baby items can be purchased individually especially on sale and clearance racks.....sometimes you can pick up really cute sets for $5 and $6 at places like TJ Maxx, Marshalls, Target, etc....and you can often purchase packages of onesies for $6-8 in cute colors at lots of places...I found that I never really used booties with either of my children as they never kept them on....and you can often pick up mittens for $1-2....also, I found I always used my own plush soft towels for my kids because I didn't like how thin most baby towels and washclothes are....so in my opinion you are really paying for the package and the convenience. 2|1|And if someone is going to have a shower for you|Kristy|mi3zons1@yahoo.com|10:59:53|04/24/2010|

Even if you ask people to concentrate on other items they always get clothes. My sister had a box full of clothes said no clothes please for my shower and still got a TON. Her son was a pork chop and there were many outfits he never even wore. He's not a year old yet and in 24mth clothing.

So many people donate clothing received as gifts that they did not like. Everybody has different taste. Also check the high end stores for markdowns. I saw some pretty things at Big Lots and Marshall's.

Congrats on the baby

5|1|Thanks ladies. Last night at Target I found a 5 pack of Gerber onsies marked down from $10+ to $7+. I had a $1- off any Gerber bedding or clothing so got them for $5+... A little over $1 each. Is that a good deal?|RobinsCrazyWorld|robinmarie72@gmail.com|13:49:54|04/24/2010|

but remember babies start out small but within weeks have outgrown all the newborn stuff and are into 6 month to 9 month stuff. one or 2 nice cute outfits are more than enough. if it gets cold where you are try some footed sleepers but other than that babies really don't need tons of fancy clothes. they simply grow too fast to spend oodles of money on clothes

Remember your manners: when god answers your prayers----- say thank you. 8|2|I hated onesies.. almost never used them.. didn't see the point..|Kristy|mi3zons1@yahoo.com|14:44:25|04/24/2010|

Five out of seven of mine are summer babies just didn't see the point. They wore outfits. Or light sleepers.

Edited to add:
Onesies with pooh or decorations or stripes not just plain white I considered outfits. Bekah had a ton of pink striped ones she wore all summer long.

I used onesies all the time with my little ones to layer under their other clothes and pajamas when it was chilly and then with pants or shorts in warmer months. Also, if a diaper leaks, that is where it will go, so you will probably need to change them pretty often! Congrats and enjoy your little one! 10|3|Oops--not trying to argue . . . |ALMom|rleary5101@charter.net|14:50:41|04/24/2010|

Believe me, after the baby is born, you won't want to put all that yellow stuff on him/her!! You will want to have gender specific items, especially if the baby has little or no hair! If you have alot of family and/or friends, you probably shouldn't worry about clothing at all: everyone loves browsing and buying in that Dept. especially grandparents!! I am a Nana to 9, and I speak from experience!! LOL

o When my sister was pregnant I had a friend selling her baby clothes cheap, we got 2 big bags of clothes for the first 2 years all boy stuff, and paid $25 bucks a bag. I was lucky that my nephew was only a year older than my son and my mom saved all the baby clothes he outgrew, all gently used clothes which really helped me out, and thought it was cool she saved them for me as I did help pay for the baby clothes for my sister..

I was all set by the time my son was born, had the crib up, sterilized all the baby bottles in advance(had 12). Had everything ready to go and it was nice when I got home...everything was prepared for him so no stress.
If you don't mind gently used baby clothes you can probably find them at a gently used baby store or thrift store..

We lived there when our daughter was little. I bought lots of sleepers for her for daycare. If she pooped and it went through, their policy was to not rinse anything out. So after a few ruined outfits... well, we got the message! Babies sleep a lot at first, so they'll spend lots of time in sleepers. Definitely get some finger mittens. You can find some yellow or white ones that can go both ways. Even better are the union type suits with the finger mittens built right in :)

I was thinking that if you did want to do this maybe right after the baby arrives? I can get enough basic items in basic colors to get started. Then when the baby comes it could be for a baby or a girl? Does that make sense?

You can do whatever you like... I am not asking for anyone to do anything, but I was thinking this would make getting cute gender specific items when I am unable to get out for a while? 39|6|That would be fine, Robin :) I think that's a good idea!|saint6811|waylan@comcast.net|14:31:35|04/25/2010|
