9 0|0|Anyone in or around the Norman, Oklahoma area? (M)|tammytwo|tamdesigns@mchsi.com|14:44:41|04/12/2010|
Posted on Apr-12-10 at 02:44 PM (Eastern) by 173.28.69.111

My family and I lived there about six years ago but were transferred back to Missouri with my husband's job. We are now considering moving back to Norman. It seems the cost of living in that area is so much more reasonable. But my question is what places are there to shop for groceries and do any of them still offer double coupons, up to what amount? How difficult is it to find work there now? I currently own my own small town newspaper and would be interested in working in that same line of work or anything to do with photography, etc. My husband is a police officer (part time) and hauls fuel (full time) in a semi. we could possibly transfer with his full time job. Also about what do utilities run, gas, electric, water? We pay over $100 a month for our water bill and electric has been over $400 during the winter.

Thanks for any help.

7|4|I don't live in Norman, OK but do live south of Tulsa|cathy|coggle@hotmail.com|22:38:23|04/13/2010|

Here's what I can answer about this area. Only one store that I know of has double coupons, it is Homeland and their prices seem higher to me, so I find it more cost effective to shop at walmart. Our water for 2 adults runs between 30 and 50 higher in summer when we use pool and water plants. My gas has never been over $200 for a 2000 sq ft home with very high ceilings. As for the job market, the Tulsa area has been seeing quite a bit of lay offs and downsizing in the past 6 months or so. Seems the bad economy took a little longer to hit us thatn some other states. The Tulsa police dept had to lay off about 30 officers, but fortunately was able to hire them back due to some grant money (long fishy sounding story)

Guess that's all I can tell you, probably not much help since you're moving to Norman. But if you do make it to OK, maybe we can hook up.

Good luck with the move

Honestly, the only place we did grocery shopping at was the commisary, I dont even remember if there was a Walmart in Lawton tho there was a small mall. Sorry I cant be of any more help. :(|jen_ron|bugsmamma@earthlink.net|22:51:46|04/13/2010|

We have an anti-police and fire council right now. They would prefer we have an all volunteer fire department for a town with a population of 6,000 and they want to turn the policing over to the county, which would be great if the county had a dependable sheriff and department. The politics here are terrible - so we are just hanging on. Got a new mayor last night because the other one stepped down (and he was the only one that cared about public safety) so we have to see where things go from here.
