on wednesday evening of this week my mom noticed that her dogwood limbs had been cut out on one side of the tree that faces the neighbors
the tree is almost to the property line but not on it
my mom talked to my dad who is on his way home from his winter vacation and he said he told the neighbors to do whatever with the tree that it was theirs
when in turn it is NOT thiers it is MY MOM"S tree i helped her plant it
it is at the end of a flower bed that WE worked on
she had already told the man to please in a kind way to leave the tree alone and another bush alone that she took care of the trimming
then yesterday she noticed that the property line stick was gone but we found the hole again today and put something back in it
she called the city to see if they had messed with it and they said they would check as they are getting ready to start running new sewer lines in that area
i call it DESTRUCTION OF PERSONAL PROPERTY MOM"S property whether or not dad told them the tree was the neighbors
i was wondering if any one had been thru this kind of situation and what you did
she is driving me nuts over it
i am just glad he didn't cut the tree totally down
i was told by the police station not to speak to them personally

THANKS!! 1|1|From the sounds of it, the neighbors were only acting on your dad's instructions to do what they want with it since he thought it was theirs....give them a chance to leave it alone from now on, now that your mom explained it is her tree and she'd like them to not cut it anymore. Dogwoods are super resiliiant, I have a line of them in my back yard....they grow quickly and actually if you keep them trimmed, they grow nicer and have more flowers on them in the summer :)|saint6811|waylan@comcast.net|15:00:38|04/09/2010|

String a line from each of the survey pins just to be a b-. She knew darn well I didn't want them touching them and she did it anyway after she went on and on about how much she hates my pine trees. I think they got the hint and they avoided being outside when I was because I sure as heck was going to say something.
Locate the survey pins first. If it hangs over, they can trim (generally) but most good neighbors ask first. Since your mom told them not to, it was not right that they did. Cutting limbs hanging over is one thing, but destructing on the tree trunk isn't. Unfortunately, the police have worse crimes to investigate. Perhaps nail a "no trespassing" sign on there to put them on notice?
I did toy with the idea of painting the back of my shed a hideous school bus yellow or baby poop green though. But since they cut my trees, I didn't bother cleaning up the brush and other mess back there. Instead, I made it messier behind my sheds figuring I don't have to look at it. And I was really going to do something back there, but lost interest because of the whole tree chopping thing.

I'm not taking your neighbor's side and I hope you don't get upset by my posting this...but as a mom of two kids who are severly allergic to many seasonal plants/trees and the daughter of a mother who suffered from a severe allergy to dogwood trees...I have to ask if perhaps your neighbor has got some form of severe allergy and cut the branches facing his side to avoid an allergy issue.
Again, I'm not trying to say he is right, I'm just asking if perhaps there is a valid reason why he needs the branches cut back on his side....

the limbs might have bothered him mowing but my mom had already asked in a nice way to leave the tree alone she had it shaped soo pretty and now it looks soo bad even the neighbors down the street are upset about it she loves mom's flowers
so i think it is coming to a section of privacy fence as soon as she can have a long chat with my dad and the nieghbors so we shall see
