and I was sitting here thinking about how everyone says that once he turns 3 they are not as "naughty" anymore, apparently they grow out of the puppy stage or something???? so I am so EXCITED for next year. He is going to wake up a year from now and decide that chewing on my house is not fun anymore, and he is going to leave the stuffing in pillows and stuffed animals. Socks will be for our feet only and not chew toys. He is also going to see that when we are home we can in fact here him when he tries to get in the trash. He is going to be so gentle with people instead of a bulldozer. Wow its going to be great...it will happen right??? right????

Have a good one :)

my doggies both of them...never chewed up things...I have no idea what the difference in dogs...but I guess we were lucky!! 2|1|It's true, they do settle down....we got our Sheltie when he was just over a year old, and he was a chewer.....bedding, area rug, throw rugs were his chewtoys of choice back then, lol. I had to work with him, but between the training and the maturing, he doesnt chew on our things anymore.....hang in there, keep working with your pooch, and in the meantime, just keep things up from him as much as you can. (I had to take up my area rug for about a year, eliminate throw rugs, and keep him out of the bedrooms.)|saint6811|waylan@comcast.net|08:48:12|04/03/2010|

ETA: Keep supplying him with chewtoys/rawhides, etc...also one of the life-saving items I invested in was the SUPER heavy duty chew toys, like a Kong toy, but got it at WM, I think Hartz made it....it seemed he wanted something tougher than him as a challenge, and he would bring that out to chew on when the mood struck him to chew :) Praise him when he has the toy out, sooner or later he'll get the idea :)

3|1|You could try some Baby Orajel, or Puppy Orajel if there's any out there.......|maraj|maraj64@hotmail.com|09:19:59|04/03/2010|

Get a tube of it if you can & using just a little bit on the tip of your finger, smear it around inside your dog's mouth on his gums.
Puppies tend to chew due to their mouth/gums itching cuz they're teething, usually up to 2 - 2 & 1/2 yrs. of age. Dogs past that age group usually chew out of boredom & lack of training.
When we got Toby (my little Chihuahua/Pekingese cross who passed away 3 yrs. ago), my son was a little over a yr. old. Toby was about 3 mos. Somehow an empty tube of Baby Orajel had found its way into my son's toybox & one day Toby got ahold of it. I think the sweet smell of its Fruit flavor is what initially attracted him to it but he liked to chew on the tube. There was evidently some Orajel left lining the inside of the tube & it was just enough to numb his itchy gums so he never chewed on anything he wasn't supposed to.
When I got Missy, my little Chihuahua/Terrier 10 yrs. ago, she was a little over 2 mos. old. I bought a tube of the Baby Orajel (Fruit or Bubble Gum flavor seems to work best). She had plenty of chew toys but still seemed to prefer shoes, slippers, etc. When I'd catch her w/something she wasn't supposed to chew on, I'd take it away & then put a small dot (a little bigger than the head of a stick pin) of the Orajel on my finger tip & smear it around on the outer part of her gums. It worked great! :)

ETA: It's good for puppies/dogs to chew on their dog biscuits, chew toys, etc. as it helps clean their teeth & gums & keeps their teeth strong & sharp to eat their crunchy food, so as long as they're chewing on those appropriate things, there's no need for the Orajel. ;)

We could learn a lot from crayons; some are sharp, some are pretty, some are dull, while others bright, some have weird names, but they all have learned to live together in the same box. ~Robert Fulghum

4|1|His chewing really isnt bad, he just has to take everything apart|latdp|the_cool98@yahoo.com|11:31:05|04/03/2010|

he is actually really good about not chewing on things, but he likes to take his toys and put a rip in them and pull all the stuffing out, when he chews on the house (how sad to admit that) it is the trim around the doors and most of the time it is because we have put him in the garage or a room because although he is lovey at time if it is a new person he does not like them. Sadly though I created this little monster myself so I can't complain, I spoiled him rotten, when we first got him it was usually just him and I. He is very bull headed, we did puppy training when I first got him, and he did ok, he will listen and I swear the little turd knows he shouldn't do some of the stuff he does, it is just exhausting sometimes because all the other dogs we have had have never been as trying, but they also had eachother too, it is just my little Roonee, he is our kid (SPOILED ROTTEN) but again I created it, but I also wouldn't ever get rid of him cause he is pretty good...WHEN HE IS SLEEPING!!!

Have a good one :)
