Thought For The Afternoon: While I was driving today, I saw way too many close calls with motorcycles & cars. For the drivers of the cars: PLEASE REMEMBER the following: "He rides on steel, But he's not Ironman. Look twice, save a life. Someone important to us rides."

For the riders: PLEASE REMEMBER as well that YOU may ride on steel BUT you are not made of it. You have to ride with care because not all drivers take the time to look twice.

As someone with loved ones that ride, it makes me cringe to see the close calls and/or read about the bikers being killed this time of year. Okay........off of my soap box! 1|1|Well said, thank you for the reminder :) We are a two, and four wheeled family here also....|saint6811|waylan@comcast.net|14:48:09|04/01/2010|

One of DD's groomsmen in her wedding two years ago died in a horrible motorcycle accident about 3 months after the wedding. He left a wife and 3 small children.

My SIL, Luke, had bought a motorcycle (his first bike) a few months before John died. After the accident, Luke never rode the bike again and sold it immediately. He said he could never put Kelly through what John's wife endured. We were all so glad because we HATED Luke's motorcycle (actually, we HATE all motorcycles).

We just heard last week that another one of Luke's co-workers was in an accident and really messed up his leg -- rods, pins, the whole works. He will be off work for 6-8 months. All he did was hit some gravel and went flying.

And the maintenance man where I work is a volunteer fireman/paramedic. He was telling me this morning that he got called last night to a motorcycle accident on the expressway where the rider had to be airlifted by helicopter. I guess the guy was severely injured. 6|1|I lost my father (he was 33) to a motorcycle accident|jdlaurie|savethosepennies@aol.com|21:41:47|04/02/2010|

My mother was a widow with 3 kids in her 30's because of a 16 year old who was driving carelessly after being up all night (the kid was tired). He drove into the wrong lane, the car in front of my father couldn't get out of the way and neither could my father.

So please be extra careful when driving, don't text when driving, don't talk on the phone, don't drink and drive and don't drive if you are having trouble staying awake! It only takes a split second to change a family's life forever! I'm extra careful when it comes to motorcycles, but I also have to ask the those on motorcycles to drive carefully. Many times I see them going in and out of traffic because they can't wait... and of course they are not wearing helmets!

Several people in my family also witnessed an accident where someone on a motorcycle was thrown from his bike when hit... had he not had on a helmet, his head would have very likely met the fate of the rest of his body which was torn up with severely broken bones, etc. Helmets save lives!
